Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.
Your support makes all the difference.Dead or Alive, the latest techno-thriller by internationally best-selling author Tom Clancy, is due to be published by Penguin in the US and UK on December 7, according to an April 7 press release. The novel will feature past Clancy characters Jack Ryan, Jack Ryan, Jr., John Clark, Ding Chavez, and Mary Pat Foley in a story about modern-day terrorism.
Written in collaboration with US Navy veteran Grant Blackwood, who is the author of the Briggs Tanner series and has also collaborated with Clive Cussler, Dead or Alive focuses on Jack Ryan, Jr. and his colleagues at the Campus, a secret US counter-terrorism organization.
"As Dead or Alive opens," reads the book's description, "the war on terror is far from won, but winning it doesn't appear to be a priority for President Kealty, Jack Ryan's successor in the Oval Office. The Emir, a sadistic killer who has masterminded the most vicious terrorist attacks on the West, has eluded capture by the world's armed forces and law enforcement agencies. Now the Campus is on his trail. Joined by their latest recruits, John Clark and Ding Chavez, Jack Ryan, Jr. and his cousins Dominick and Brian Caruso are ordered to catch the Emir and they will bring him in...dead or alive."
Tom Clancy is the author of 13 internationally bestselling novels, including The Hunt for Red October, Patriot Games (1987), Clear and Present Danger (1989), The Sum of All Fears (1991), and Rainbow Six (1998), many of which have been adapted into video games and blockbuster films. Dead or Alive will be the author's first book to be published in seven years.
