Canada vs Great Britain LIVE: Women’s football result, final score and reaction at Tokyo Olympics today

The final group stage game will determine if Team GB go through as group winners or runners-up

Great Britain take on Canada in their third and final group stage fixture on Tuesday, already through to the knockout phase but now trying to secure top spot.

Six points taken so far, courtesy of a two-goal victory over Chile and a late win over hosts Japan, leave Team GB able to rotate the squad for this fixture if head coach Hege Riise wants to, though in theory a first-place finish in the group should yield a better fixture in the quarter-finals. If Great Britain finish top, they will play third place from either Group F or G - China PR or Australia at the start of play on the final round of games - while a second-place finish sees them play F’s runners-up, likely Brazil or Netherlands.

Canada still need a point to guarantee their own progression, though with the two best third-place sides also going through, they look in a strong position to reach the last eight regardless.

A decent ball into the box searching out the run of Parris, but Canada’s keeper Labbe is out quickly to claim.

Still Riise’s team who look the better when they move it around quickly, but perhaps not quite the numbers being committed forward to really overwhelm Canada as yet. More emphasis on the North American nation to get a result, of course, as they’re not through yet.

Meanwhile, USA need to do something to arrest the lead ROC currently have in the gold medal race.

Great Britain have just seen Jennifer Gadirova - one half of the 16-year-old twins on the team - perform well on the floor.

We are now hearing that Simone Biles is OUT of the team event and will not compete in any of the remaining disciplines.

Daly has a great chance after being played in behind Lawrence, but her clipped shot strikes the ‘keeper and deflects over the bar.

Meanwhile, it’s 0-0 in the other game in this group too between Chile and Japan - the hosts have to win to have a big chance of going through - if they draw, they’ll have to hope both Zambia and China PR lose in the late Group F games.

Team USA answer with aplomb though! They produce a sensational uneven bars routine themselves to keep their hopes of gold alive. Sunisa Lee with a 15.4, the biggest score so far today.

GB, France, Belgium, Italy and China still all battling it out for bronze.

What a chance for GB. A clipped pass into the box is missed by the defender, Parris can’t control, it bounces to Caroline Weir and she also can’t bring the ball under her spell! Two decent chances around the penalty spot, not taken.

0-0 in the group’s other game, too, so it’s all as you were and all to play for in the second half in terms of positions.

If USA can somehow overhaul the ROC from here then it truly would be a miraculous turnaround. To reverse a three point lead without Simone Biles will take a monumental effort.

Remember, Biles still has the opportunity to win four more gold medals, but she will not take any further part in the team event due to an injury.

She appeared to suffer the injury during a difficult landing on the vault.
