Canada vs Great Britain LIVE: Women’s football result, final score and reaction at Tokyo Olympics today

The final group stage game will determine if Team GB go through as group winners or runners-up

Great Britain take on Canada in their third and final group stage fixture on Tuesday, already through to the knockout phase but now trying to secure top spot.

Six points taken so far, courtesy of a two-goal victory over Chile and a late win over hosts Japan, leave Team GB able to rotate the squad for this fixture if head coach Hege Riise wants to, though in theory a first-place finish in the group should yield a better fixture in the quarter-finals. If Great Britain finish top, they will play third place from either Group F or G - China PR or Australia at the start of play on the final round of games - while a second-place finish sees them play F’s runners-up, likely Brazil or Netherlands.

Canada still need a point to guarantee their own progression, though with the two best third-place sides also going through, they look in a strong position to reach the last eight regardless.

Oh! Simone Biles’ first appearance at the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games is not an ideal one by any stretch. The American launches off the vault but almost falls on landing. A very deep stumble on the mat.

Not the best start for Biles as she receives a 13.766 - the lowest vault score so far. Russia almost certainly going to take a lead out of the vault.

Not really seen anything of GB on the balance beam yet. The broadcasters understandably focusing on the ROC and USA as they battle it out for the gold medal.

Will bring you a leaderboard as soon as we get one. For now, it looks like Russia are in control.

A fairly nervy start in possession for Team GB, almost giving away a chance or two, but they have settled quickly and looked to play forward to the front two as quickly as possible.

Deanne Rose makes a great run down the right channel for Canada and has two waiting in the box, but her cut-back is between them and Great Britain can clear. No real chances in the opening stages for Hege Riise’s side.

Good start for Great Britain in the balance beam as Jennifer Gadirova receives 14.3 for her performance.

Meanwhile, Melanie De Jesus Dos Santos gets 14.2 for her impressive bars display.

Russia lead the way by more than a point from USA. France are in third and Great Britain down in seventh. But they will expect to move up the standings.

Here was Biles’ error on the vault as she nearly fell but managed to just about recover.

No word yet on why she has left the arena, may have been for medical attention but she didn’t appear to have an injury.

A very scrappy opening almost-quarter of the game so far - lots of possession losses and failures to spot runners on time. Ashley Lawrence dribbles brilliantly down the wing for Canada but there’s not really any end product.

Nikita Parris finally produces a moment of quality with a through pass to Georgia Stanway, but she can’t get a clean shot away. Team GB just stepping up the intensity a little more in the last few minutes.
