Man Utd vs Wolves betting tips:
- Man Utd -1.5 – 81/100 with William Hill
- Man Utd win to nil – 13/10 with Parimatch
- Marcus Rashford to score anytime – Evens with Bet365
Manchester United will aim to make a winning start to the new Premier League campaign when they host Wolves at Old Trafford on Monday night (8pm, Sky Sports Main Event).
The Red Devils beat Wolves home and away last season, which should fuel the players with confidence ahead of this eagerly anticipated clash.
The fans will be keen to see new arrivals like Mason Mount and Andre Onana in action, while it will also mark the start of Bruno Fernandes’ reign as United captain.
It has been an exciting summer for United supporters, but the same cannot be said for the Wolves faithful as manager Julen Lopetegui left after growing dismayed at a lack of investment in the squad.
For that reason, betting sites have made United the heavy favourites to win this match and they should have enough quality to justify that status.
We have analysed the key betting markets on this game below, and explained the reasoning behind our top tips.
Back United to pile more misery upon Wolves
Wolves could become relegation candidates this season after losing some key players in the summer transfer window. Captain Ruben Neves joined the mass exodus to Saudi Arabia, depriving the team of its midfield lynchpin.
Star striker Raul Jimenez and winger Adama Traore joined Fulham, while Nathan Collins moved to Brentford, leaving the spine of the team looking a little flimsy.
Wolves are facing constraints due to Financial Fair Play regulations and they have not invested in many new arrivals to bolster the squad.
Matheus Cunha’s loan move was made permanent, while Boubacar Traore joined from Metz in a £10m deal, but it has been a very disappointing summer all-round for Wolves fans.
Lopetegui, a talented manager who steered the team to safety after replacing Bruno Lage last season, has now left the club in protest.
Gary O’Neil was brought in as his replacement, but the former Bournemouth boss lacks Lopetegui’s tactical nous.
For all those reasons, a price of 23/10 on Wolves in the Premier League relegation odds looks very attractive, and they are likely to be outclassed at Old Trafford on Monday.
Erik ten Hag’s men beat Wolves 2-0 at the Theatre of Dreams in May, and they should be able to cover a 1.5-goal handicap at 81/100 once again in this match.
Tip: Man Utd -1.5 – 81/100 with William Hill
United’s defence should hold firm in this game
The Red Devils have conceded just two goals in their last nine games against Wolves in all competitions.
They beat the West Midlands club 1-0 at Molineux and 2-0 at home last season, which bodes well for their chances of keeping a clean sheet on Monday.
It is also worth noting that United kept more clean sheets than any other team in the Premier League last season – 17 in 38 matches.
Eleven of those clean sheets came at home and they conceded a mere 10 goals in their 19 matches at Old Trafford.
Key defenders Raphael Varane and Lisandro Martinez are fully fit right now and they should be able to keep Wolves’ forwards pretty quiet.
The visitors may be a little toothless in attack now that Neves, Jimenez and Traore have left the club this summer.
Wolves were the lowest-scoring team in the Premier League last season, with just 31 goals scored in 38 games.
Neves was their joint-top scorer with six goals, while Jimenez and Traore fired in three apiece, so things are not looking good for Wolves in that department.
United are priced at just 2/7 with football betting sites to win this game, so odds of 13/10 at Parimatch on them winning it to nil look tempting.
Rashford can pick up where he left off
Marcus Rashford enjoyed his most prolific season in front of goal last term, finding the back of the net 34 times for club and country.
Only five Premier League players outscored him – Erling Haaland, Harry Kane, Ivan Toney, Mohamed Salah and Callum Wilson.
Rashford is likely to be United’s main goal threat on Monday, as Anthony Martial and new signing Rasmus Hojlund are both out injured.
He led the line in the recent pre-season friendly win against Lens, so Ten Hag may opt to keep him up front in this match.
Alternatively, Jadon Sancho could play as a false nine, allowing Rashford to cut in off the left, as he did to devastating effect last season.
Either way, he looks well priced at Evens to get on the scoresheet with Bet365.
