From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Your support makes all the difference.

Donald Trump has won the US presidential election after securing three key battleground states.

He has become the first convicted criminal to be elected president in the United States, allowing him to carry out his radical vision for a far more conservative country, with power concentrated in his hands.

Addressing a thrilled crowd in Florida, he declared a “magnificent victory,” saying, “America has given us an unprecedented and powerful mandate.”

In addition to Trump’s win, Republicans are projected to retake control of the Senate, solidifying a strong night for the GOP.

World leaders, including UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer, as well as leaders from Ukraine, Israel, and Hungary, have already extended their congratulations to Trump.

Trump’s return to the White House marks an extraordinary comeback after a 2020 loss to Joe Biden. Meanwhile, Vice President Kamala Harris has yet to comment on the results.

Now, we want to hear from you. What are your thoughts on the night’s developments? Do you see Trump’s potential return as a historic turning point?
