Day Four of the Wimbledon Championships sees the second round of the men's and women's singles continue at the All England Club.

Rafael Nadal opens the action on Centre Court at 1pm, where he takes on Mikhail Kukushkin. Johanna Konta and Kyle Edmund follow the French Open champion, facing Dominika Cibulkova and Bradley Klahn respectively.

Elsewhere, Garbine Muguruza continues her title defence against Alison Van Uytvanck on Court Two. Before that, though, Katie Boulter goes head to head with rising star Naomi Osaka for a place in the third round.

What an entertaining affair this was. The Spaniard may have won in straight sets but that fails to tell the full story of this match. It was in the final set where things started to get interesting as Kukushkin delivered some sublime strokes to put Nadal on the back foot. One notable crosscourt dink, preceded by a manic dash from the baseline, had the crowd on their feet in delight - as did a number of other shots. But Nadal's class proved to be too much. He marches on.

Laura Robson has undergone successful hip surgery, the former Wimbledon girls' champion said on Thursday.

Ten years on from her success in the junior event, Robson is looking to rebuild a career that has been blighted by injury.

The 24-year-old has fallen from a high of 27th in the world rankings to her current 349th position.

Robson has not played a singles match since May and was working for the BBC at Wimbledon earlier this week.

Alongside a picture of herself in a hospital bed, she wrote on Instagram: "Cheesy thumbs up for a successful hip surgery. Preferred my outfits from earlier this week. Rehab ready!"

She reached the fourth round of the US Open in 2012, and the same stage at Wimbledon the following year.

Wrist problems have been the main impediment to Robson building on her highly promising results as a teenager, with injury keeping her out of the game for a long stretch from early 2014.

The results that carried her into the top 30 have been beyond Robson since returning to the tour in 2016, and she ruled out playing Wimbledon this year even if she was offered a wild card.

Angelique Kerber admitted to being caught cold as she had a battle to get past Claire Liu in three sets to progress to the third round of Wimbledon.

The 2016 finalist was staring a defeat in the face after losing the first set, but came back to win 3-6 6-2 6-4.

Liu has pedigree at the All England Club as she is the 2017 junior champion and Kerber concedes she did not know too much about her 18-year-old opponent.

She said: "I didn't know a lot about her. This is always tough to play against someone you actually don't know, and also don't really know how she is playing.

"It was a quite tricky match. I was not playing my best today. I was not feeling my rhythm from the beginning. She played well. She had nothing to lose.

"For me it was just a match where I won. I'm just happy about that I won it at the end."

Katie Boulter will leave Wimbledon feeling like she is not too far away from the game's elite after pushing 18th seed Naomi Osaka in the second round.

The pair's meeting in Birmingham two weeks ago lasted just 46 minutes, with Osaka sweeping Boulter aside for the loss of only three games.

But the 21-year-old from Leicestershire, who secured her first grand slam victory on Tuesday, showed significant improvement from that match to give one of tennis' brightest rising stars a decent test.

The 6-3 6-4 defeat caps off a grass-court campaign that has seen Boulter defeat three top-100 players and former US Open champion Sam Stosur. She will climb to around 111 in the world rankings a week on Monday.

Boulter was most pleased with the improvements she has made since Birmingham, saying of that match: "It really showed me where I need to be, what I need to do to get there.

"It's a very clear thing for me and my team to see someone like that, to play against someone of that calibre. It's very inspiring to be two weeks later much closer to her, actually feeling like I'm in the match, having a chance to win.

"She hits the ball really fast, takes time away from you. I think I needed to move quicker and be behind the ball. That's what I'm going to be focusing on going forward. I'm looking forward to having many more matches against people like that."
