Day Four of the Wimbledon Championships sees the second round of the men's and women's singles continue at the All England Club.

Rafael Nadal opens the action on Centre Court at 1pm, where he takes on Mikhail Kukushkin. Johanna Konta and Kyle Edmund follow the French Open champion, facing Dominika Cibulkova and Bradley Klahn respectively.

Elsewhere, Garbine Muguruza continues her title defence against Alison Van Uytvanck on Court Two. Before that, though, Katie Boulter goes head to head with rising star Naomi Osaka for a place in the third round.

Kukushkin 4-6 1-3 Nadal

The Spaniard is so relentless and aggressive in his play. For one point he kept on pushing his opponent further and further into the left-hand corner before Kukushkin was forced into drastic measures, attempting to lift the ball up and over his opponent who had taken up position on the T. It failed to work, though, and instead fell favourably to Nadal who smashed home the point.

At three break points down, Kukushkin looked to have salvaged something, hitting two aces on the trot. But Nadal refused to pass by this opportunity, eventually forcing the error from his opponent to seal the game.

Kukushkin​ is growing increasingly sloppy in his play, either misplacing simple shots or firing them into the net. There's a degree of frustration creeping in. If he's to stand any chance against Nadal, he'll need to keep his emotions in check.

To his credit, he managed to hold serve in that final game under considerable pressure from the Spaniard. Sending Nadal in the wrong direction, the world No 77 pumped the ball into the bottom right corner for the winning point.

Nadal has established a two-set lead here but Kukushkin hasn't certainly given it a good go, delighting the crowds with back-to-back points that showcased what he's capable of.

For the first, he hit a stunning cross-court backhand that fizzed across the face of Nadal who could only stand there and watch it fly back. Then, on the second, he put the Spaniard's serve well out of reach with a sweeping forehand return that moved him up 30-15.

His issue, though, has been capitalising on this momentum. Two unforced errors followed before Nadal sealed the game to take the second set. Kukushkin has flashed with brilliance at times but he's missing that winner's mentality.

At three break points, Kukushkin was primed to break the Spaniard but Nadal had other ideas. In typical fashion, the world No 1 ground down his opponent to draw a series of mistakes and take the game to deuce.

A sublime Kukushkin forehand followed, taking him to advantage, but once again he failed to take his chance. Nadal then pulled ahead but was kept in check by a fizzing backhand down the line that returned the game to deuce. It went back and forth again - and is still doing so...

We're onto the longest game of the match so far with it at deuce once again...

Big news from Court One! Marin Cilic has been knocked out by the unseeded Guido Pella of Argentina. Their match was suspended yesterday due to the rain and recommenced today, and despite winning the first two sets with ease, the third seed found himself unravel. Yet another early exit for one of Wimbledon's big guns.

At last, Kukushkin has finally broken Nadal in this third set. He had two break points and looked on course for yet more disappointment when the Spaniard fired down an ace to make it 40-30. But the world No 1 stumbled with an unforced error to finally hand Kukushkin the break he has deserved.

John Isner almost snatched defeat from the jaws of victory but survived to beat Belgian qualifier Ruben Bemelman in a delayed second-round match at Wimbledon on Thursday.

The American ninth seed eventually won 6-1 6-4 6-7(3) 6-7(6) 7-5 but he came desperately close to another Wimbledon failure.

On Wednesday, he led two sets to love and held a match point in the third set but the 105th-ranked Bemelmans stormed back to win two tiebreaks and level the match before rain intervened.

On the resumption Bemelmans came close to a big shock when Isner served at 4-5 and trailed 15-40 but he saved both match points with booming aces, two of the 64 he sent down -- the fourth highest total ever at Wimbledon.

Bemelmans tightened up at 4-5 and double-faulted on the way to being broken and Isner wrapped up victory, despite facing a break point, in the following game as he forced an error.

Isner now has the chance to record his best Wimbledon performance, having never been past the third round.

To achieve that he will have to get past Moldovan Radu Albot who beat Slovenian Aljaz Bedene in five sets.
