Who will win the 2020 Six Nations?

Follow the latest updates from the final day of the Six Nations after England moved top of the table with a 34-5 bonus-point win over Italy, with France’s  clash with Ireland at the Stade de France to decide the destination of this year’s title.

Two tries from England centurion Ben Youngs helped his side secure the bonus point they desperately needed, with Jamie George also scoring on his 50 cap for his country. Tom Curry’s try in the second half secured the crucial bonus point, with Henry Slade adding a fifth for good measure.

It means that England have one hand on the trophy, but will have to wait for the result in the final game of the championship to know if they have clinched the title for the first time since 2017, as if Ireland beat France by six points - so long as they score a try - or by seven points, they will beat England to top spot, while a bonus-point win would also be enough for the Irish.

If ever there was a realisation that the anthems are there for the fans, that was it.

An eerily quiet rendition of Flower of Scotland is followed by a similar, slightly louder version of Hen Wlad Fy Nhadau, with only the players and staff heard. Hopefully the action will help us to quickly forget the sadness that surrounds these fixtures taking place against the backdrop of the current crisis.

Anyway, that’s enough doom and gloom for today (I promise). It’s the Six Nations, it’s Alun Wyn Jones’s special day and it’s Finn Russell’s return to international rugby.

It’s Super Saturday and it’s about to get under way!

WALES VS SCOTLAND

It may not be the Principality Stadium and the stands may be empty, but there remains all the fire and brimstone that facing Wales on home soil brings as Alun Wyn Jones runs out on his own, the 140th time he has done so for his country and a record 149th time in an international to break Richie McCaw’s all-time record.

His teammates soon join him, as do Scotland, and we will have a minute’s silence before kick-off for the late JJ Williams, who passed away on Thursday at the age of 72. The British and Irish Lions great was a Llanelli favourite, and it is fitting that he will be remembered on this stadium by his former national team. The players are also honouring those lost during the coronavirus pandemic, and will also show their support for the Rugby Against Racism campaign.

Wales will also be playing with black armbands on this afternoon in memory of JJ Williams, who truly was a special player.

SIX NATIONS SUPER SATURDAY

Could today live up to 2015’s standards? Surely not.

On that occasion, England, Ireland and Wales all went into three separate matches on Super Saturday knowing they could win the title. In the end it proved to be a day to remember for Ireland as they just took the spoils on points difference, with England falling a converted try short of glory.

Today, England and Ireland are in the mix once again, but it’s France who can also take the title and to make it all the more convoluted, Ireland and France meet each other int he final game that Eddie Jones’s side are watching closely.

SIX NATIONS SUPER SATURDAY

Well we’ve been waiting for this day for a long time, haven’t we?

Coronavirus first claimed the round-four encounter between Ireland and Italy, a game that was finally played last weekend the resulted in a landslide 50-17 victory for the Irish that puts them in pole position for the title today.

It also claimed all three matches on the final day of the championship, which was initially expected to be held on 14th March. As it stands, it’s Halloween instead and 31 October will be the date that everyone will remember as the conclusion of the 2020 Six Nations Championship - or forget depending on how the day ends.

Good afternoon and welcome to ‘Super Saturday’! It’s been more than seven months in the making, but the final round of the Six Nations is finally here and it brings me great joy to bring it to you live throughout the day, with the Championship set up for one of the more spectacular finishes as we know the title fight will go down to the final match of the tournament.

Before we get into all that, we have some breaking news to bring you. Wales have confirmed that flanker Justin Tipuric has been ruled out with Tonsillitis just an hour before kick off, meaning James Davies is promoted to openside flanker from the bench and Aaron Wainwright comes into the matchday 23 to fill the vacancy on the bench.
