Moment: 'We'll do the deals we can do' - Arteta after missing out on Mudryk deal

Arsenal are closing in on a deal for Brighton’s Leandro Trossard after they were pipped to the signing of Shakhtar Donetsk’s Mykhailo Mudryk by Chelsea. The 28-year-old forward has fallen out with manager Roberto De Zerbi and looked likely to leave the Seagulls during this transfer window with Arsenal keen to boost their forward line. Trossard is an adaptable player and would provide cover for both Bukayo Saka and Gabriel Martinelli on the wings as well as Martin Odegaard through the middle as the Gunners chase down a first Premier League title since 2004.

Up in the North East, Newcastle continue to do business and are negotiating with Nottingham Forest over a loan move for striker Chris Wood. He was one of Eddie Howe’s first signings at the club but with Callum Wilson and Alexander Isak fit again Wood may be surplus to requirements. That definitely would be the case if the Magpies are successful in signing their next target: Everton’s Dominic Calvert-Lewin. Newcastle are reportedly preparing a £35million bid for the striker.

Elsewhere, West Ham have enquired to sign Danny Ings from Aston Villa with the forward undergoing a medical at the London side later today. His signing could ease the pressue on manager David Moyes who is said to be facing the axe should his team fail to beat relegation rivals Everton at the weekend.

Leicester targeting Souttar

Leicester have made an approach to Stoke about a possible deal for centre back Harry Souttar.

Brendan Rodgers was keen to sign a new central defender, even before Wesley Fofana made his big-money move to Chelsea, and Souttar has caught the Leicester boss’ eye for his aerial prowess and ability on the ball.

Only three Premier League teams have conceded more goals than Leicester so far this season, so strengthening the defence is Rodgers’ top priority but Stoke manager Alex Neil has said the club “have no aspirations to sell Harry”.

Could Zidane replace Potter?

The Daily Express are reporting that Chelsea are looking into the possibility of bringing in Zinedine Zidane to replace manager Graham Potter despite giving Potter assurances that they are focused on a long-term project.

Potter’s side are in a poor run of form, which has seen them drop to 10th in the table and 10 points off the Champions League spots.

Champions League football is a crucial money maker for the big clubs and the Sun are claiming that Chelsea could be set for an “unpredictable” FFP future after their heavy spending if they were to fail to qualify for the Champions League.

Should that happen would the Blues hierarchy oust Potter and bring in Zidane?

Bellerin rejects Everton move

Hector Bellerin is said to have ‘rejected’ an offer from Everton this month.

The Barcelona right-back has made only one league start this season and is very much at the bottom of the pecking order with the Spanish giants.

Bellerin is actively looking for move away from the club and is out of contract at the end of the season. He has received offers from Premier League teams. Spanish media outlet Sport claim that one of the interested clubs is Everton but Bellerin has ruled out a move to Goodison Park.

Brighton boss lifts lid on Leandro Trossard’s imminent exit to Arsenal

Roberto De Zerbi is regretful at how the last few weeks have unfolded with Leandro Trossard, but is confident Brighton can cope without the outgoing forward.

Trossard has not played for the Seagulls since their 4-2 defeat against Arsenal on New Year’s Eve and it is understood he is on the verge of sealing a transfer to the Premier League leaders.

He was dropped ahead of last weekend’s match against Liverpool after leaving training early without permission, and his agent has urged cooperation on a switch which is “beneficial for both parties”.

While he has bagged seven goals this season, Brighton have won all three games without Trossard in the ranks, with last Saturday’s 3-0 win over Liverpool lifting them up to seventh in the top flight.

Man Utd rejected Maguire loan offer

Manchester United have reportedly rejected an approach from West Ham to sign Harry Maguire on loan until the end of the season.

The Mail claim David Moyes’ side looked at signing the United captain this month but were met with a negative response from Old Trafford’s transfer chiefs.

West Ham were hopeful a similar deal could be struck to the successful loan of Jesse Lingard two years ago, however, manager Erik ten Hag is keen to keep Maguire and promptly turned down the offer.
