Roy Hodgson marks his return the management in Saturday afternoon's early kick-off as his Crystal Palace side host Southampton.

Palace sacked former boss Frank de Boer after losing their first four matches this season and are still yet to score in the Premier League.

Saints, who have enjoyed a mixed start, with one win, two draws and a defeat, welcome Virgil van Dijk back to the squad for the first time since he handed in a transfer request.

11 mins: Despite the monotonous chanting emanating from the Holmesdale End of Selhurst Park, it's Southampton who are in full control, bossing possession and looking likely to register a quickfire second goal. Don't get too carried away though, Saints fans, because here's Alan Parry to remind us that the south coast club lost more games from wining positions than any other Premier League club last season.

16 mins: Great save! Or perhaps it was just a bad miss? Either way, it was Palace's best chance of the contest so far. Ryan Bertrand made a mess of clearing things up in his own half, allowing Andros Townsend to pounce. The winger played in Ruben Loftus-Cheek inside the area, who then squared for Christian Benteke inside the six-yard-box. The Belgian striker, following in, made contact but could only direct his close-range shot straight at Fraser Forster.

17 mins: After Southampton had scrambled Benteke's effort behind for a corner, Palace threatened again. However, just as they did at Burnley, they failed to make the most of lacklustre marking, This time, it was Loftus-Cheek getting the free header so wrong that it became a free shoulder.

Benteke was on his wavelength, and flicked a quick pass into the path of the Chelsea loanee, who had continued with his run forward. Taking a couple of huge strides into space, Loftus-Cheek unleashed a low drive from 25-yards that just flew past Forster's right-hand post.

The left-back has no idea where Dusan Tadic is after the Serbian pushes the left-back inwards and before darting to the touchline. The result allows the Southampton man plenty of space to cross into the middle of the box - an area where Schlupp has now fallen over - but Shane Long fails to get a foot on the ball.

Ryan Bertrand and Nathan Redmond make inroads down the left with clever moment and quick passing, eventually working the ball to Tadic just inside the box. The Serbian takes on the shot first time, only to see it blocked by a determined, diving defender. Where were they when Davis prodded Southampton into the lead?
