Rodri fired the winning goal as Manchester City finally claimed Champions League glory and completed the treble with a hard-fought 1-0 win over Inter Milan.

The midfielder rifled home in the 68th minute as the Premier League winners City wore down the Italians in a draining final at the Ataturk Olympic Stadium in Istanbul.

The contest was a tight one, with City suffering a serious blow in pursuit of the prize that has eluded them for so long when they lost Kevin De Bruyne to injury in the first half. The prolific Erling Haaland was also kept quiet by a stubborn Inter side but Rodri eventually made the breakthrough with a firm strike after a Bernardo Silva pass was deflected into his path.

It capped a momentous season for City having also won the FA Cup as well as a fifth Premier League title in six years. Their success means they also join rivals Manchester United as the only side to have won all three of those trophies in the same season. It meant mission accomplished for owner Sheikh Mansour, who was present in Istanbul at only his second match since purchasing the club in 2008 and subsequently propelling them to the game’s top table. Manager Pep Guardiola could also celebrate Champions League success again 12 years after the second of his two wins as Barcelona boss.

Jack Grealish discusses the Man City victory

A clearly emotional Jack Grealish has discussed the incredible Man City win, barely holding back tears as he spoke to BT Sport.

"It's what you work your whole life for. Today I was awful. To win the treble with this group, it's so special," Grealish said. "I'm a family person, I love football so much, it's what I worked for all my life.

"You think back to all the people who have helped me all the way. It's emotional.

Rodri reacts to winning the Champions League

"I'm emotional, it's a dream come true. We've waited all these years, 20, 30, 40... I've only been here four years but we all deserve it. Last year we were so close. It's unbelievable,” Rodri told BT Sport.

"It wasn't easy, what a team we face, the way they defend and counter attack, they are a great team. We give everything.

"What an effort from everybody, I was playing s*** to be honest in the first half but I scored a goal, unbelievable. We didn’t expect to play well like always, the emotions are there. We performed like animals. We made history. This group, this project is to have more and more ambition, these moments may never happen again.”

Those saves from Ederson at the end were incredible. For all the comments that he’s a new-age goalkeeper who plays so well with his feet, it was the old-school keeping the ball out of the net that he came up with at the key moments. Superb.
