England held another top nation to a Wembley stalemate as they shared a forgettable goalless friendly with Brazil.

Four days on from a strong display in a 0-0 draw against World champions Germany, a Brazil side boasting the likes of Neymar, Philippe Coutinho and Gabriel Jesus failed to break down a resolute England defence.

Fernandinho came closest to settling the contest as the Brazil substitute hit the post in the second-half as Gareth Southgate again opted for an experimental side as he continues his plans for the World Cup.

Nah you’re too late. It’s old out. Sorry.

What have they been saying?

Southgate has been encouraged by Rashford's recent form (Getty)

Gareth Southgate on Marcus Rashford: “It's amazing really that he's been a player who's been able to dip under the radar as we think so much of him, not only his ability, but his mentality and his maturity.

“He's a very exciting player, but grounded, wants to improve all the time. For me he's going to be a top player. He has all the attributes of the top players I've worked with, but he's still only 20.

“Quite often we look across at each other in training and raise our eyebrows at some of the things he does. He's a very exciting player."

“Jose (Mourinho) wouldn't mess around, but he picks him in all the big games and is on the field in nearly every game.

“We wanted to look after him last summer as we see him as a big part of our future. He'll score goals... his technique and his finishing ability are tremendous.”

Can Jesus become as good as Ronaldo? (Getty Images)

Dani Alves on his team-mate Gabriel Jesus: “I wasn't joking when I called him the new Ronaldo.

“He's already great and will get better. For all that he's done, all that he's achieved, there's no pressure.

“He's doing what he loves.”

Post-match reaction from Gareth Southgate

On where he rates that England display: "In terms of heart, resilience and spirit, the performance is up there with anything I've been involved in. Young players digging in, but we just couldn't get hold of the ball as well as we did the other night (against Germany).

"The other night we showed really good qualities with the ball and some defensive prowess. Tonight we just showed resilience, guts and some really outstanding defending against a top, top team so I'm incredibly proud of what the players have done."

On what he learned about his players tonight: "We had the best defensive record in Europe in qualifying. We've played the best two teams in the world and managed to keep two clean sheets. We know we need to be better with the ball than we were tonight but even then, when you dig in like we did, you get half-chances at the end that could win you the game."

On Joe Gomez's man-of-the-match display: "I thought all of the defending was outstanding but him in particular, to come into a game like that with little experience, it was a really top, top performance."
