FA Cup quarter-final draw LIVE: Liverpool, Chelsea and Manchester United learn fate
FA Cup fifth-round ties take place this midweek as the 16 remaining teams are reduced to the final eight
The FA Cup quarter-final draw took place on Wednesday evening as the remaining eight teams all discovered their fate for the next round.
Reigning champions Manchester City were drawn in an all-Premier League tie against Newcastle United while the lowest ranked side left in the competition, Coventry City, were given a potentially favourable side against Wolves.
Championship leaders Leicester City face a trip away from home as they head south. Their opponents are Chelsea, who managed a last-minute winner against Leeds United in the fifth round.
Finally, there is a barnstorming quarter-final clash between old rivals Manchester United and Liverpool. Both teams made it through their fifth round ties - United beating Nottingham Forest thanks to Casemiro’s late winner, while Liverpool’s kids knocked out Southampton - and are now set on a collision course for the last eight.

Newcastle’s season could still be very special, Eddie Howe had said. Their performance was not but the hope of a first trophy since 1969, of some major silverware since Neil Armstrong walked on the moon, was preserved courtesy of something special by Martin Dubravka.
Even as he has made a string of saves, the Slovakian’s spell deputising for the injured Nick Pope has been a traumatic one. He has conceded 30 goals in 16 games. That number could have risen considerably at Ewood Park. Instead, Dubravka capped a display of heroics over 120 minutes with twin stops in the penalty shootout, denying first Blackburn’s scorer Sammie Szmodics and then their captain Dom Hyam. When the defender’s spot kick was tipped on to the post, and Fabian Schar, Bruno Guimaraes, Elliot Anderson and Anthony Gordon had scored their own, to compensate for Harvey Barnes’s miss, Newcastle were FA Cup quarter-finalists.

Erling Haaland scored five of Manchester City’s six goals in a superb individual display as the FA Cup holders thrashed Luton at Kenilworth Road to progress to the quarter-finals.
City’s top scorer made it 27 for the season despite having missed almost two months with a foot injury, driving his team on to a ruthless 6-2 victory, though the win owed as much to the excellent Kevin De Bruyne, architect of four of his teammate’s goals.
Mateo Kovacic also scored with a worthy strike of his own late on after Jordan Clark had netted either side of the interval to haul Luton from three down to within a single goal. In truth, though, they never really got close to City.

Substitute Abdul Fatawu scored a stunning extra-time winner as Bournemouth lost 1-0 at home to Championship leaders Leicester.
Fatawu collected Kelechi Iheanacho’s pass on the edge of the penalty area before bending a powerful left-foot shot into the top corner to send the Foxes into the quarter-finals.
Leicester made nine changes from the side beaten at home by promotion rivals Leeds last week but still showed their Premier League credentials.

Ellis Simms ended Maidstone’s FA Cup fairytale as his first-half hat-trick helped fire Coventry into the quarter-finals.
The striker’s treble and Fabio Tavares’ late double sent the Sky Blues into the last eight for the first time since 2009 after a 5-0 win.
It was a disappointing climax to the Stones’ historic Cup run, which had seen them win seven ties – including knocking out Barrow, Stevenage and Ipswich – to become the first team outside the top five divisions to reach the fifth round since Blyth Spartans in 1978.
