Burnley 0-3 Man City: Erling Haaland scored twice as City start the season with a win
The Premier League is back! The new season got underway as newly-promoted Burnley hosted the reigning champions Manchester City at Turf Moor.
From the off, the champions showed that they haven’t missed a step as Kevin De Bruyne broke into space on the right wing, whipped in a cross and found Rodri in the box. He nodded the ball down to Erling Haaland to tapped it home for the opening goal. There were four minutes on the clock at the time.
Despite a spirited response from Burnley Haaland outdid himself later in the first half after receiving the ball from Julian Alvarez. He took a blind shot at goal and smoked home a blistering finish that ricocheted off the underside of the crossbar to send the visitros into the break two goals up.
Rodri then added to Burnley’s woes who with a well taken third in the second half before a bad night for Vincent Kompany’s men was capped off with a late red card to Anass Zaroury.

83 mins: Sander Berge wins Burnley a corner kick which Anass Zaroury sends into the middle. Ederson comes to claim the ball but slips and the referee awards him a free kick after the goalkeeper was impeded trying to catch the ball.

80 mins: With the match done and dusted, Pep Guardiola decides to make some changes. He replaces Erling Haaland, Nathan Ake and Rico Lewis with Aymeric Laporte, Cole Palmer and new signing Josko Gvardiol who makes his debut for City.

Man City win a free kick over on the left side of the pitch where Phil Foden whips a sharp cross into the middle of the box. The ball is flicked on past Erling Haaland and bounces into the chest of Nathan Ake before bobbling back to Rodri.
Rodri snatches at the ball and drills it into the back of the net!

72 mins: Jordan Beyer has a touch of cramp and is replaced with Manuel Benson for Burnley. Benson did a strong job helping the Clarets win promotion last term and will be looking to show off his quality in the top flight.
Pep Guardiola is unhappy about some of the decisions being made and is some a yellow card.

69 mins: Burnley’s changes have done a fine job of upping the intensity and putting Man City under a bit of pressure defensively. Ederson is forced to clear his lines as the Burnley forwards sweep towards him.
The Clarets aren’t creating many chances though and that’s what will go against them.

66 mins: Burnley boss Vincent Kompany was the first to make changes just after the hour mark with Anass Zaroury and Jacob Bruun Larsen coming on for Zeki Amdouni and Luca Koleosho.

63 mins: This is a chance for Burnley now. They win a corner that substitute Anass Zaroury swings into the box. The ball drops into space but it’s a Manchester City defender who gets to it first.

60 mins: An hour played at Turf Moor and City are slowing the tempo down, maintaining possession and picking their moments to try and get in behind Burnley’s back five.
Close! The ball comes up to Haaland who spins and drives towards the penalty area. Alvarez goes past him on the outside so Haaland offloads the ball.
The Argentine nips into the box and blazes his effort wide of the near post.

Julian Alvarez sends another corner ball into the box and Rodri runs onto it this time. His header is a good one but James Trafford drops to his right and smothers the effort.
Burnley are still in this game. A goal for the Clarets would change the complexion of this one.

54 mins: Phil Foden jogs over to the corner flag to whip a set piece into the box for Man City. His target is Erling Haaland at the near post but the forward is beaten in the air surprisingly.
The ball comes out to Rodri who floats a cross back into the middle only for Burnley to effectively clear their lines this time.
