Donald Trump says he'd welcome Michael Flynn back to the White House

Dr Anthony Fauci responded to White House's "bizarre" attacks against the coronavirus taskforce head, saying it ultimately hurts the president.

Donald Trump distanced himself from the op-ed in USA Today, saying it was written by Peter Navarro and that he had a good relationship with Dr Fauci.

It came as Oklahoma's Kevin Stitt becomes first US governor announced that he had tested positive for Covid-19.

Trump, meanwhile, appeared to avoid a Twitter hack that targeted presidential candidates Joe Biden and Kanye West, as well as other high-profile politicians and business leaders like Barack Obama and Elon Musk.

Biden and Obama among bitcoin hack scam targets

Trump seems to have avoided a bitcoin hack scam that has targeted some of the country's most high-profile politicians and business leaders, including former president Barack Obama and current presidential candidates Biden and Kanye West (maybe).

Michael Bloomberg, Jeff Bezos, Elon Musk and Bill Gates were also among those hacked in the Twitter scam promising "double" payments to a Bitcoin account

The messages were all quickly deleted, but similar messages continue to appear across Twitter, indicating a significant breach within the platform, as the hackers attracted thousands of dollars in payments.

The first messages appeared on the Tesla CEO's account on Wednesday: "I'm feeling generous because of Covid-19. I'll double any BTC payment sent to my BTC address for the next hour. Good luck, and stay safe out there!"

The message was deleted and replaced with another similar message: "Feeling greatful [sic], doubling all payments to my BTC address!"

"You send $1,000, I send you back $2,000," the message said.

ICYMI: The Trump family really loves its beans

From The Independent's James Crump:

President Donald Trump has posted a picture to Instagram posing with Goya Foods products, following a boycott of the company last week after its CEO Robert Unanue publicly praised him.

The post followed president's daughter, Ivanka, posing with product on Tuesday night

Mr Trump smiled and put his thumbs up, while posing behind his desk in the Oval Office on Wednesday, with five Goya products including coconut milk and red kidney beans laid out in front of him.

Mr Unanue joined Mr Trump at an event at the White House's Rose Garden last week and told reporters:

"We are all truly blessed ... to have a leader like president Trump who is a builder."

He added that "we have an incredible builder, and we pray. We pray for our leadership, our president."

After his comments, some of the president's critics, including congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and playwright Lin-Manuel Miranda, said they would boycott the brand.

The CEO of the Latino foods brand refused to apologise for praising the president and told Fox News that the boycott of Goya products that followed his comments were a "suppression of speech."

NYPD chief, protesters roughed up in Brooklyn Bridge clash

Several New York City police officers were attacked and injured Wednesday as pro-police and anti-police protesters clashed on the Brooklyn Bridge, police said.

The confrontation happened hours before Mayor Bill de Blasio signed into law a series of police accountability measures inspired by the killings of George Floyd, Eric Garner and other Black people.

At least four officers were hurt, including Chief of Department Terence Monahan, and 37 people were arrested, police said. Information on charges was not immediately available.

It was not clear how many protesters were injured. An Associated Press photographer witnessed several people getting roughed up by police, including a woman who ended up on the pavement with an officer pulling on her hair.

Surveillance video posted on social media by the police department showed a man on the bridge's pedestrian walkway rushing toward a group of officers and reaching over a fence to smack one of them in the head with a cane.

Police photos of the aftermath showed a lieutenant with a bloodied face, a detective holding a bandage to his head, and a bicycle officer helping a fellow officer dress a head wound.

Monahan, who last month knelt in a show of solidarity with protesters, sustained injuries to his hand.

Journalism is not a crime

The Independent today launches a campaign to protect journalism, under attack as perhaps never before: Journalism Is Not a Crime.

Violations of journalistic freedom are becoming more commonplace, including in America and Britain. Growing hostility to the press is a threat to everyone.

Sean Hannity says he may run for president: 'You never know!'

Fox News host Sean Hannity, the conservative media commentator often credited as one of president Donald Trump's closest confidantes, hinted on live television he may one day launch his own bid for the White House.

The comments came as Hannity opened his show on Tuesday night while exchanging jokes with Fox News' Brian Kilmeade, who quipped about taking over his popular nightly programme.

"A few year years, it's all yours," Hannity said in response. "Who knows, I might run for president. You never know!"
