For anyone wondering why Kanye West decided to wear blue contact lenses to the prestigious Met Gala, he has an answer.

West accompanied his wife Kim Kardashian-West to the event at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City on Monday evening. The theme of this year’s event was Manus x Machina: Fashion in an Age of Technology.

The rapper and clothing designer, who tends to stay notoriously quiet and straight-faced on the Red Carpet, was asked about the eye accessories by E! News. “Was it part of the look or just something you wanted to do tonight?” the reporter asked.

“Vibes,” shrugged West.

Well, that’s that then.

Kardashian-West, evidently much more at ease in front of the cameras, described her Balmain dress and style as “a blingy, sexy robot”. While speaking to the press, West had a quiet word with a security guard who swiftly moved out of the way, suggesting that no one distracts the camera from his wife.

The couple’s similar outfit choice landed them in the “best dressed” section of Vogue magazine, which the 38-year-old said he was “really excited” about, before turning his Twitter timeline into an Oscar-style thank you speech.

Never one to give too much away through facial expressions, West assured his 22 million followers he had a great time at the event.
