Macknade Christmas favourites hamper

Macknade Christmas favourites hamper
  • Best: overall
  • Number of items: 14
  • Why we love it
    • Great variety of products
    • All the Christmas treats you will need

Our favourite hamper for the festive season this year comes from the Kent-based food connoisseur Macknade. This wicker hamper is packed with a well-curated variety of Christmas food and drink and not one item is a miss. From Macknade’s own-brand Italian Christmas classic panettone to decadent wild boar paté, each treat complements another.

We appreciated that lovers of port and bubbles can enjoy a tipple, and there is a decent split between sweet and savoury foods. Highlights include a pistachio cream (which tastes decadent when spread on a piece of panettone), the amaretto-steeped apricots that have become our new favourite Christmas treat and the refreshing Pierre Mignon champagne, which will uplift you and cleanse the palate between bites.

Everything Cutter & Squidge creates is fun and inventive with inviting packaging that’s delightful to open. The mini squidge Christmas hamper is no exception with lots of sweet treats to enjoy with Peruvian coffee.

Although not particularly Christmassy in theme, these treats nonetheless piqued our curiosity: jam on toast cookie bite, cacio e pepe crumbly biscuits and lemony Earl Grey biscuits. This is a great one to take over to a pal’s place for a coffee and catch up.

Reserve Wines blind tasting at home

Reserve Wines blind tasting at home review
  • Best: For wine tasting
  • Number of items: 3
  • Why we love it
    • Fun and interactive wine tasting
    • Delicious wines

An ingenious way to conduct wine tasting at home, the Reserve Wines blind tasting box is a great dinner party activity or date night idea. Three mystery bottles of wine will be delivered with information and tasting notes for each bottle. The twist being that you have to guess which bottle matches the descriptions.

We tasted three delicious wines, one floral with vanilla and peach notes, another dry with grapefruit notes and one with acidy lemon. We loved the tasting game and the anticipation of full glasses once the guessing was over. Choose white, red or “fancy” red at-home tasting bundles.

  • Best: Stylish hamper
  • Number of items: 10
  • Why we love it
    • Beautifully presented
    • Nice variation

Coffee shop and bakery chain Gail’s has launched Christmas hampers for the first time – and they don’t disappoint. True to form, the bakery is offering a box that is beautifully packed in a signature minimalist white and red design. We love the attention to detail, such as the illustrated card that shares details on the 10-strong line-up. The selection has you covered for everything from festive hosting (see the Lincolnshire poacher cheese biscuits and green tomato chutney) to lazy mornings in bed (with thanks to the house blend ground coffee) and post-Christmas dinner snacks (the crunchy hazelnut spread is delicious).

Other highlights include the tangy Seville orange marmalade; crispy buttermilk crackers (topped with mature cheddar cheese), and perfectly buttery and rich mince pies. The pièce de résistance, though, is the ginger and treacle loaf cake, which is perfect for impressing Christmas guests.

  • Number of items: 10
  • Why we love it
    • Champagne and red wine included
    • Great gift for a Christmas or Boxing Day host
    • Excellent chutney for a cheese board
    • Great value for money compared to similarly priced hampers

You were probably scrolling and wondering when you’d get to this review. Fortnum & Mason are the epitome of luxury hampers and we’ve been lucky enough to taste test a variety of their delights over the years. The handwoven hamper itself, is of course, iconic but this year’s classic Christmas offering makes for a truly indulgent gift, with all of the traditional festive box trimmings.

We appreciated the generous booze inclusion, which is particularly helpful if your gifting to the host of Christmas Day, to ensure you enjoy a delicious tipple over the dusty Babycham your Gran brought over. The alcohol doesn’t just end with the refreshing Brut Réserve champagne and juicy Sicilian red, you also enjoy a generous kick from the rum-soaked Christmas pudding, which pairs exceptionally with the sweet, buttery cognac butter. But it just isn’t Christmas without the glorious zesty flavour of orange and cinnamon, married perfectly by the moreish Christmas biscuits. Designed to serve alongside your Christmas cheeseboard, the Boxing Day pickle is a must-have topper for vintage cheddar and salty blues.

The verdict: Hampers

Our favourite for variety this Christmas is the Macknade hamper, which hails from Kent and offers the perfect split between sweet and savoury options.

For wine aficionados, the Baxters of Scotland sommeliers selection hamper is unmatched – it’s the perfect way to stock up for a festive dinner party. If, like us, you’re obsessed with cheese, the Mouse & Grape port and red wine hamper makes for an excellent cheese board.
