Former James Bond star Pierce Brosnan has revealed that he wants Tom Hardy to play the role of the franchise's titular character.

In an interview with The Mail on Sunday, the 65-year-old actor dubbed Hardy a good fit for Bond.

"I think Tom Hardy could be a good Bond," Brosnan said. "I’d be happy to see him do it. You need an actor who can put a bit of wiggle into it - that’s what makes Bond."

Brosnan also praised actor Daniel Craig for his starring role in the longstanding film series; he's set to reprise his role as James Bond in Bond 25 next year.

"Daniel Craig has been an incredible Bond," he said. "He’s very physical, he looks lethal. You genuinely believe this is someone who could kill a man."

Brosnan also commented that "a woman could play Bond but it wouldn’t be James Bond."

Brosnan originally took over playing 007 from Timothy Dalton in 1995.

Aside from acting in GoldenEye, Brosnan felt his depiction of Bond was "never good enough."

"I was caught between Sean Connery’s Bond and Roger Moore’s Bond," he explained. "And it was only really in GoldenEye that I did my Bond."

Brosnan portrayed Bond for the final time in 2002's Die Another Day.
