Revealed: The thousands of dog attacks since XL Bullly breed ban
Since February, it has been a criminal offence to own an XL bully dog in England and Wales without an exemption certificate (Jacob King/PA) (PA Archive)
Following a ban on XL Bully dogs in the UK, new figures reveal over 23,000 reported Dog attacks occurred in the 12 months after the ban's implementation.
This represents a slight increase compared to the previous year and significantly more than five years ago.
The rise may be partly attributed to updated Crown Prosecution Service guidance.
An XL Bully owner, Summer Trezise, criticizes the ban after being attacked while defending her dog from another dog, highlighting the importance of responsible ownership regardless of breed.
Despite some reported attacks involving XL Bullies, the collected data doesn't offer a complete picture due to inconsistent breed logging by police. The RSPCA advocates for responsible ownership and stronger penalties for irresponsible owners rather than breed-specific bans.
