For today's horse racing tips, our analyst James Boyle looks at the flat racing meeting at Newcastle with two selections now online.

16:55 Newcastle – Golden Delite – 1pt @ 5/1

Golden Delite could be worth backing despite his flop on debut for Mick Appleby. Connections went to 130,000gns to get him after his second in a Newmarket novice in June and that was a fine effort, one that offered hope for him stepping up to a mile-and-a-half.

He was kept to 1m 2f at Ffos Las most recently and was undoubtedly poor in finishing a distant fourth, but the ground was testing and I don’t think he enjoyed it. His two winning siblings achieved their sole flat wins on the All-Weather, so hopping onto it may help him.

This will be his handicap debut and whilst 77 is an impossible mark on his last run, it looks lenient on what he did at Newmarket and stepping up in trip, alongside wearing a tongue-tie for the first time, can help him to find a new level. He’s a nice horse with more to come if all is well.

20:30 Newcastle – Lady Celia – 1pt @ 5/1

Lady Celia was one of my last time out selections and I had anticipated that she’d enjoy stepping up to 6f at Catterick, only for her racing position to prove less than helpful. Regardless, she still shaped well enough in staying on for a mid-division finish and could do better this time.

Returning to 5f on a track that takes some getting won’t be a problem and she has no shortage of form here. Her figures over the minimum trip in 0-60’s reads 4-1-4 and Clifford Lee is 3-6 when riding for Alan Brown, including a win on Lady Celia in July. With luck, they should go close.
