Detroit Lions vs Las Vegas Raiders betting tips:
- Jared Goff to throw over 264.5 passing yards – 10/11 bet365
- Jakobi Meyers to score touchdown any time – 10/3 BetVictor
- Detroit Lions –7.5 handicap – 19/20 BetMGM
The Detroit Lions (5-2) will be aiming to get back to winning ways against the Las Vegas Raiders (3-4) in their clash at Ford Field.
The Lions suffered a humbling 38-6 defeat at the hands of the Baltimore Ravens last time out, stymieing their early-season momentum. Dan Campbell’s side have the chance to bounce back on home field, where they’ve won two out of three games this term.
Detroit are still in command for the race for the NFC North title, and although the Minnesota Vikings have closed within a game, Kirk Cousins’ Achilles injury may halt their progress in the division.
Bookmakers believe a path appears clear for the Lions to win the NFC North at odds of 1/20.
The Raiders will be boosted by the return of Jimmy Garoppolo as they seek to move back to .500 in their campaign.
The quarterback suffered a back injury in their win over the New England Patriots two weeks ago and missed their defeat to the Chicago Bears last time out.
Las Vegas struggled against a poor Bears outfit, slumping to a 30-12 defeat on the road. Josh McDaniels needs a response from his unit to keep them in the race for the post-season.
Here are our predictions for the contest in Detroit.
Goff to bounce back
Goff endured one of the toughest games of his season against the Ravens. Although the 29-year-old threw for 284 yards, he could not get into a rhythm with his receivers due to the tight coverage from the Ravens defence and constant pressure from the pass-rush.
He was sacked a season-high five times as the Lions mustered only six points on the road.
There has been criticism suggesting that Goff can only play in the comfortable surroundings of a dome stadium, which is bizarre considering he threw for 353 yards and two touchdowns against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in an outdoor environment the previous week.
Goff is averaging 271.7 passing yards per game that puts him in the upper echelons of quarterbacks in the campaign.
However, he may be without key wideout Amon-Ra St Brown for the clash with the Raiders. Las Vegas have performed well against the pass this term, limiting their opponents to 187.4 passing yards per game.
That being said, they’ve only played a couple of stellar quarterbacks in the form of Josh Allen and Justin Herbert.
They held Herbert in check, but Allen tormented their defence. We’re backing Goff to have a solid day throwing downfield at odds of 10/11 with bet365 to throw over 264.5 passing yards.
Tip: Jared Goff to throw over 264.5 passing yards – 10/11 bet365
Meyers to find the end zone
It took time for Jakobi Meyers to become a threat in the end zone. The wide receiver set the NFL record for most catches and receiving yards without scoring a touchdown before he ended his two-year drought for the New England Patriots in the 2021 campaign.
Since then, he has been a reliable option for his quarterbacks. Since his move to the Las Vegas Raiders in the off-season, Meyers has taken his game to another level, scoring touchdowns in three straight games.
The 26-year-old has scored five touchdowns this season, including two on the opening day against the Denver Broncos.
With Garoppolo restored to the line-up, he has a solid quarterback that should allow him to profit against a Lions’ unit that has shown vulnerabilities against the pass.
After looking at all the odds from new betting sites, we’re taking a price of 10/3 with BetVictor for Meyers to score any time.
Tip: Jakobi Meyers to score touchdown any time – 10/3 BetVictor
Will the Lions run wild?
Other than their tight win over the Kansas City Chiefs on the opening day of the season, the rest of the Lions’ victories this season have been by double digits.
Campbell’s team have ranged from the sublime to the ridiculous, losing a winnable game at home to the Seattle Seahawks before reeling off four wins on the bounce before their heavy defeat to Baltimore.
Detroit are still a young team that are learning to how to win on a consistent basis in the NFL. But, their offence has the power to blow the Raiders away.
Las Vegas have played close games against similar quality opposition, but their form on the road is a concern, losing by 28 and 18 point margins to the Bills and Bears.
The line has been set at –7.5 for the Lions to beat, and we’re backing them to respond to their defeat with a strong performance at Ford Field at odds of 19/20 with BetMGM.
