Women’s World Cup tips:
- Draw or Netherlands – 19/20 with SpreadEx
- Japan to win – 13/10 with Betway
- France to win – 6/5 with BetGoodwin
- Under 2.5 goals in England vs Colombia – 8/15 with Bet365
England are outright favourites in the latest Women’s World Cup odds but it’s still a competitive market as we’re down to the final eight teams.
Six of the remaining eight sides are trading at single figure odds to win the tournament and we’ve got a betting selection for each of the four ties taking place on Friday and Saturday.
Spain vs Netherlands – Friday, 2am on ITV1
Football betting sites make Spain warm favourites to win this first quarter-final clash, but we’re happy to oppose La Roja for this clash at the Wellington Regional Stadium.
Although they enjoyed an emphatic 5-1 win over Switzerland in their last 16 tie, things could be different against an impressive Netherlands side.
Andries Jonker's team claimed a 2-0 win over South Africa to book their spot in the last eight and that came after topping Group E.
They have a stubborn defence which has only conceded a single goal during this tournament and the Dutch will be keenly aware that Spain were sucker-punched when being thrashed by Japan.
Jill Roord has been among the goals with the new Manchester City signing having four to her name already. Bookmakers are offering a decent price about the underdogs and the draw in a double chance bet.
Tip: Draw or Netherlands – 19/20 with SpreadEx
Japan vs Sweden – Friday, 8:30am on BBC One
Japan have been blowing away some decent opposition, with the Asian side claiming an amazing 4-0 win over Spain during the group stage and they made short work of Norway in the last round too.
Futoshi Ikeda’s team racked up three group wins, scoring 11 goals without conceding. Hinata Miyazawa is a woman on fire, with five to her name and we’re not convinced that Sweden will be capable of coping with the Japanese attacking onslaught.
The Swedes did knock the United States out of the World Cup in the previous round but they rode their luck before claiming a victory on penalties.
We can’t help but feel that Peter Gerhardsson’s side were handed a facile group which enabled them to record three wins. Japan should be too strong for them.
Tip: Japan to win – 13/10 with Betway
Australia vs France – Saturday, 8am on ITV1
France have clicked into gear and Les Bleues seem to be improving with every game. After a slow start when drawing 0-0 with an obstinate Jamaica side, Herve Renard’s side were able to edge out Brazil before unleashing hell against Panama, scoring six goals to ensure top spot in Group F.
The French then blew away Morocco in their last 16 tie, with the favourites three goals to the good within the space of 20 minutes and veteran forward Eugénie Le Sommer was at the double.
Australia will boast home advantage at Lang Park in Brisbane, but they once again face fitness questions around captain and best player Sam Kerr as she continues her recovery from a calf injury. Although the Matildas have been able to navigate their way through to the business end of the competition, there have been a few bumps in the road.
During the group stage, the Aussies were beaten 3-2 by Nigeria after needing a penalty to overcome a modest Republic of Ireland team in their opener. Granted, there was a 4-0 win over Canada in their third game, but it was a laboured performance to edge past Denmark in the last 16.
We actually think the price about a France win is backable as Les Bleues bid to improve on their previous two tournament showings which has seen them exit at the quarter-final stage of the competition.
Tip: France to win – 6/5 with BetGoodwin
England vs Colombia – Saturday, 11:30am on ITV1
England rode their luck to edge past Nigeria in the last round and now face an unpredictable Colombia team who accounted for Germany in the group phase.
The South Americans are in unchartered territory after reaching their first ever Women’s World Cup quarter-final and betting sites make them major underdogs.
As firm favourites, it’s hard to get excited about England’s match odds based on the evidence so far. Sarina Wiegman’s side were second best against the Nigerians and the only time a convincing win has been delivered this tournament was against China in their final group clash.
Therefore, any victory for the European champions is likely to be by a slender margin so backing under 2.5 goals seems the obvious play here. The Colombians edged past Jamaica by a single goal to set up this clash and will be happy to keep things tight as long as they can.
