There are two quarter-final spots still up for grabs at the 2023 Women’s World Cup, with the last 16 stage coming to a close on Tuesday.
Colombia clash with surprise package Jamaica in Melbourne, while France are strong favourites to overcome a Morocco side who are the last remaining debutants in the competition.
We’ve cast our eye over the latest Women’s World Cup odds to provide the best betting angles on the two fixtures.
Colombia vs Jamaica – Tuesday, 9am on ITV1
Jamaica have entered unchartered territory in the 2023 Women’s World Cup, with the Reggae Girlz reaching the last 16 of the competition after finishing second behind France in Group F.
Four years ago in France, they were subjected to three heavy defeats by Brazil, Italy and Australia in what was admittedly a tough draw, but Lorne Donaldson has since created a competitive team and the Jamaicans were defensively strong throughout the group phase.
The Caribbean nation stunned France in their opening clash when registering a goalless draw and went one better against Panama a few days later to claim their first ever victory at a Women’s World Cup.
They then showed their defensive capabilities once again to hold Brazil to another 0-0 scoreline which led to the South Americans bowing out.
On the basis that just one goal has been scored in Jamaica’s three matches, it seems logical to bet on a low-scoring clash at the Melbourne Rectangular Stadium. The Reggae Girlz come into the contest as outsiders but they have the blueprint from games against France and Brazil to keep things tight.
As for Colombia, they are a hard team to fathom. Nelson Abadía has cultivated an attacking style of football and there was everything to like about the way that they beat Germany.
Linda Caicedo has been one of the stars of the tournament – she figures prominently in the Golden Ball winner odds on betting sites – but Las Cafeteras are perhaps too reliant on their wonderkid.
The Colombians have never progressed beyond the last 16 stage of a World Cup and they might struggle to break down an organised and disciplined team who haven’t yet conceded in this tournament. There’s also the fact that full-back Manuela Vanegas is suspended for this clash after receiving a second yellow card against Morocco.
Indeed, it was a lacklustre performance against the African side which led to a 1-0 defeat, with Abadía’s side having opened the tournament with a 2-0 win over South Korea, although there will be a fair degree of pressure on them as favourites and we should anticipate a tense encounter here.
Tip: Under 2.5 Goals – 4/9 with Unibet
France vs Morocco – Tuesday, 12pm on BBC One
There are some obvious similarities between the Morocco women’s football team and their male counterparts. The latter were brilliantly organised at the 2022 World Cup which saw them navigate a path through to the semi-finals of the competition before coming a cropper against France. Will the same thing happen to the Lionesses of Atlas?
Les Bleues are strong favourites for the win and they have an excellent coach in the form of Hervé Renard, with the Frenchman ironically having been in charge of the Moroccan men’s team between 2016-2019. He then had a four-year spell in charge of Saudi Arabia before being given his current post earlier this year.
The French were nullified by a defensive Jamaica team in their group opener before edging Brazil 2-1 in their second game. However, they demonstrated some power scoring to claim top spot when putting Panama to the sword by a 6-3 scoreline.
Kadidiatou Diani was in particularly devastating form with a hat-trick and Olympique Lyon’s marquee signing could be in the mood for more goals here.
Football betting sites are offering very short odds on France to win the game in 90 minutes so it could be worth going in search of bigger odds by backing Les Bleues to win the game and ‘no’ on both teams to score.
This effectively means you are backing Renard’s side to win without conceding and this bet could come in as Morocco likely won’t show a great deal of ambition.
This is Morocco’s first ever appearance at a World Cup and we can’t help reflecting on that opening group game where they were thrashed 6-0 by Germany. It demonstrates that a top-quality team could have plenty of joy against a fragile defence.
