Scotland have already secured their place at Euro 2024 but will look to continue their impressive run in qualifying against Georgia on Thursday (5pm, Viaplay).
Steve Clarke’s men saw their ticket to Germany next summer punched courtesy of Spain’s victory over Norway in the last round of Group A fixtures.
The Scots have been outstanding during their qualifying campaign and will now get the chance to compete in the Euros for the second straight tournament.
But, Clarke and his team will want to enter 2024 with momentum and they have the chance to send out a statement by finishing above Spain.
Scotland are currently second behind La Roja on goal difference and would need a goal blitz or results to land in their favour to leapfrog them to the summit, as the two are entirely level on head-to-head.
Football betting sites have installed Scotland as the favourites to beat Georgia in Tbilisi, but the hosts can cause Clarke’s team problems, especially on home soil.
Here are our Georgia vs Scotland predictions.
McTominay on the scoresheet
Scott McTominay has been Scotland’s standout performer in the final third during qualifying.
The Manchester United midfielder has scored in four out of six games, and it should have been five after seeing his fine strike from a free-kick disallowed in Scotland’s 2-0 defeat to Spain.
The 26-year-old has the same amount of goals to his name as Erling Haaland, highlighting how effective he has been in front of the net.
McTominay has maintained his international form at club level, scoring important goals for United in their wins over Brentford and Sheffield United.
Although he has his detractors, one criticism that cannot be levied at the midfielder is his final product. Scotland certainly would not have secured their place at the Euros without him.
He scored against Georgia at Hampden Park to put Scotland in command of the game, and we’re backing him to produce in front of goal again.
With our first Georgia vs Scotland prediction, we’re taking McTominay to score any time at 11/4 with SpreadEx.
Georgia vs Scotland Tip 1: Scott McTominay to score any time – 11/4 SpreadEx
Low scoring affair?
Scotland’s success has been down to a resolute defensive effort at the back. They’ve conceded only three goals in six matches, and only two of those came from open play in their 2-0 defeat to Spain.
The other effort came from the boot of Haaland from the penalty spot in Scotland’s 2-1 triumph in Norway.
Clarke has cultivated a resilient team, keeping four clean sheets out of six.
Although Georgia do have talented players in the final third, notably Napoli winger Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, Scotland have the strength to produce another shutout.
At the other end, Scotland have been clinical rather than blowing teams away. They scored three goals twice against Cyprus, and even two of those came late on in their win at Hampden Park.
Outside of a 7-1 hammering at the hands of Spain, Georgia have been decent at the back too, shutting out Cyprus in their last outing. So, a goal glut may not be on the agenda in Tbilisi given the identity of both teams.
We’re backing a low-scoring contest with our second Georgia vs Scotland prediction by taking under 2.5 goals at 4/5 with BetGoodwin.
Georgia vs Scotland Tip 2: Under 2.5 goals – 4/5 BetGoodwin
Kvaratskhelia in the action
Kvaratskhelia is the star of Georgian football and has certainly made his mark in international football scoring 12 goals in 26 appearances.
Although the 22-year-old has scored only five goals this season for club and country, he has been extremely active in and around the penalty area.
He gives opposing teams plenty to think about when he takes possession both in terms of shooting or supplying his teammates.
But, the winger has gone five games without a goal in all competitions, which perhaps shows a lack of luck or clinical edge with his opportunities.
Kvaratskhelia averages 3.62 attempts on goal per game, but only 27.9 per cent of those efforts have been on target. He found the net and mustered an assist in Georgia’s win over Cyprus last time out, sliding an effort in from close range.
Kvaratskhelia will have to be better against Scotland, and we fancy him to test their rearguard with greater accuracy than he has been showing of late.
With our final Georgia vs Scotland prediction, we’re taking Kvaratskhelia to have over 1.5 shots on target at 11/8 with bet365.
Georgia vs Scotland Tip 3: Khvicha Kvaratskhelia over 1.5 shots on target – 11/8 bet365
