England vs Denmark betting tips:

England were made to work hard for a victory in their opening game of the 2023 Women’s World Cup.

Georgia Stanway’s first-half penalty was enough to get the better of Haiti, with the Lionesses now bidding to claim three more points against Denmark which would put them in the knockout stage of the competition.

In the latest Women's World Cup odds, Sarina Wiegman’s side are warm favourites to get the better of a Danish side who also claimed a 1-0 win in their first game. Amalie Vangsgaard’s dramatic late winner put the Scandinavian side in a strong position to reach the knockout stages of the tournament.

We expect a more fluid performance from both sides when they clash at Sydney Football Stadium, although England are struggling to find the net right now.

Let’s not forget that they huffed and puffed in a goalless draw against Portugal in a warm-up clash and there was the same scoreline in the unofficial friendly with Canada.

Perhaps Wiegman will make a few tactical changes along with some different personnel taking to the pitch. Lauren James certainly made a difference when appearing as a 61st minute substitute, while Rachel Daly looked dangerous during her cameo role, so don't be surprised if the pair get the chance to start against Denmark.

One big positive to come from the win over Haiti was the performance of goalkeeper Mary Earps. While it was something of a worry that the underdogs were able to fashion so many chances, the Manchester United stopper proved equal to any task and that gives us confidence that England can continue to keep clean sheets in the tournament.

Millie Bright and Alex Greenwood will be out to ensure that Denmark aren’t able to create the same number of chances, with the Danes looking to secure a draw which would put them in a favourable position ahead of their final group game against Haiti. That could well end up being a decider.

Lars Søndergaard will have been relieved that one of his second-half substitutes was able to find the net when it looked as though a stubborn China side were going to manage the perfect game plan.

Betting sites reckon Denmark will be defensive against one of the tournament favourites who are likely to dominate possession, with Signe Bruun considered their most likely goalscorer at 15/4 to net anytime.

Pernille Harder is another danger player for Denmark and Bayern Munich’s new signing has previously demonstrated her worth for Chelsea where she averaged a goal every two games for the Women’s Super League outfit.

She also has a similar ratio of 70 in 142 games for her country and will lead her teammates out with confidence. The 30-year-old has been given odds of 14/1 to score the first goal, but the onus will be on England to break the deadlock so it’s a bet we’re going to swerve.

England betting tips: What to back vs Denmark

We’re expecting England to improve and claim a victory in this clash, although there’s no particular juice in the price about the Lionesses.

However, there’s a chance to back Wiegman’s side to achieve a victory without conceding, with the correct score market offering customers the chance to perm together a couple of scorelines.

Denmark, who are 1/4 to advance from Group D, only scored once during three group games at the Euros, with Germany and Spain able to beat their Scandinavian opponents without conceding.

Goals were also hard to come by leading up to this tournament, with a single goal beating Japan in April before falling short to a talented Spanish outfit when clashing in Gladsaxe.

Football betting sites are certainly anticipating a low-scoring clash, and we advise punters to either back the Lionesses to win the game and keep a clean sheet (11/10) or alternatively look to back a 1-0 correct score (17/4) for greater odds.

Going with the former covers 3-0, 4-0 and 5-0 winning scorelines, although we’re not convinced that they’ll click into that level of attacking gear.

England Women have drifted on the outright market after their opening performance, with USA remaining as the favourites, while Spain Women and Germany Women have been respected after their showings thus far.

Winning Group D is currently the central objective, although that might put the Lionesses on a collision course with the Germans.

Despite England underwhelming against Haiti after modest preparation for the tournament, the friendly defeat against Australia at Brentford was the first time that they had lost under Sarina Wiegman.

We know that clean sheets have been the hallmark of the Dutch manager’s reign, so that's where we're looking to for value in the betting markets.
