The 2023/24 English Football League season is now in full swing with three rounds of Championship fixtures having been played.
The majority of League One and League Two teams have played four games and this provides us with lots of information on how the clubs have been performing in the early stages of the campaign.
It’s certainly a fertile part of the season to be placing a football bet. We know every team is going to be motivated to land a result during these early weeks, but we also have some kind of form guide when searching for a punt on football betting sites.
There are also stats developing when it comes metrics such as goals scored and conceded along with the number of shots on target being registered. With all that in mind, here is our Football League win accumulator for Saturday:
- Leg 1: Rotherham vs Leicester
- Leg 2: Burton vs Bolton
- Leg 3: Oxford vs Charlton
- Leg 4: Gillingham vs Colchester
Most UK betting sites will give you odds of around 10/1 on this four-fold bet.
Leg 1: Leicester to beat Rotherham
Leicester City have made an ideal start to the season under Enzo Maresca. They have earned three wins from three games played and should prove too strong for Rotherham United at the New York Stadium.
After a late comeback to beat Coventry City in their opener, the Foxes enjoyed a 1-0 victory at Huddersfield Town before a last-gasp winner over Cardiff City last weekend. They now face a Millers side who are without a win this term.
Matt Taylor’s side were comprehensively beaten 4-1 at Stoke City in their opener, with United then relinquishing a two-goal lead against Blackburn Rovers before a 2-1 defeat at Sunderland.
They managed just one shot on target in that game and there could be a gulf in class when they come up against a Leicester team who boast a 100 per cent record, with Wanya Marcal-Madivadua looking the part for the Foxes.
Leg 2: Bolton to beat Burton
Bolton’s excellent start to the League One season was dealt a blow last weekend when they were beaten 4-0 at home to Wigan Athletic.
Previously to this, they enjoyed comprehensive wins over Lincoln, Cheltenham and Fleetwood, scoring nine goals and conceding just once.
A deeper look into that game against the Latics highlighted that it was something of a freak result. Ian Evatt’s side had five shots on target and a further eight off target with Bolton dominating possession, and the same thing should happen when they head to the Pirelli Stadium.
Burton are rock bottom of the League One table after collecting just one point from their first four matches. Three of these have been on the road but the Brewers have scored just one goal this season and they look easy to oppose against a strong Bolton side.
Leg 3: Oxford to beat Charlton
Oxford United are sitting pretty in fourth place right now and we think the U’s can continue their winning run against Charlton.
After an inauspicious start to the campaign which saw them lose 2-0 at Cambridge before a 5-1 EFL Cup thumping at Bristol City, Liam Manning’s Oxford side have won three on the bounce.
A 1-0 win over Carlisle was followed by away victories at Derby and Barnsley, with forward Mark Harris in excellent scoring form. There’s every reason to think they will oblige against opponents who have lost three of their four clashes this term.
Charlton began the season with a 1-0 win over Leyton Orient but they have subsequently lost four in a row including consecutive home defeats against Bristol Rovers and Port Vale. Five goals were conceded by the Addicks across those two games.
Leg 4: Gillingham to beat Colchester
Gillingham look like banker material for Saturday’s clash at the Priestfield Stadium. It’s top against bottom, with the Gills boasting a 100 per cent start to the season and three of their four games have been on the road.
Neil Harris appears to be building something at the Kent club and all four wins have been achieved by a 1-0 scoreline, while the League Two leaders also beat Southampton in an EFL Cup encounter.
Conversely, Colchester have no points from their first three matches, with defeats having been suffered against Bradford, AFC Wimbledon and MK Dons.
It could be more of the same against high-flying opponents, so back a home win at Priestfield.
