Crystal Palace vs Arsenal betting tips:

Arsenal will face a stern test of their title credentials when they take on Crystal Palace under the floodlights at Selhurst Park on Monday night.

The Gunners suffered a damaging defeat at this stadium towards the end of the 2021/22 campaign which sparked a late collapse in their top-four bid.

However, they beat the Eagles home and away last season which should provide the players with confidence as they prepare for this game.

Betting sites make Arsenal the odds-on favourites to secure victory, but they will need to be vigilant against Palace’s prowess on the counterattack.

It promises to be a fascinating game played out in front of a raucous home crowd and we have provided our best betting tips below.

Back Arsenal to secure a narrow victory

Arsenal began the 2022/23 season by battling to a highly symbolic 2-0 victory over Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park.

Gabriel Martinelli fired in the opening goal on 20 minutes and a late own goal from Marc Guehi wrapped up a hard-fought win.

Just four months prior to that game Arsenal had suffered a 3-0 defeat to the Eagles at the same stadium.

The Gunners dominated possession but they could not find a way past Vicente Guaita and they were torn apart on the counterattack.

Reserve full-backs Cedric Soares and Nuno Tavares had a torrid evening against the pace and trickery of Wilfried Zaha and Jordan Ayew, resulting in a humiliating defeat.

Arsenal lost their next two games and they ultimately finished fifth in the table, two points behind Tottenham.

However, they signed Gabriel Jesus and Oleksandr Zinchenko last summer and they returned to Selhurst Park with renewed vigour.

They were good value for that 2-0 win and they then thumped Palace 4-1 at the Emirates in March.

That result left them eight points clear of Manchester City at the top of the Premier League table and, with just 10 games remaining, football betting sites had made them favourites for the title.

The Gunners suffered another late implosion and finished second but they have spent big again this summer, snapping up West Ham captain Declan Rice and Chelsea forward Kai Havertz, among others.

They are a lot stronger now than they were in April 2022 and they began the new campaign with a 2-1 win against Nottingham Forest last weekend.

Arsenal also beat City on penalties to win the Community Shield at Wembley and they should be able to maintain their winning streak on Monday.

It is unlikely to be a high-scoring affair. Crystal Palace’s home games averaged just 2.32 goals last term and they may not be as potent in attack now that Zaha has left the club, while Arsenal’s away games only averaged 2.79 goals.

The Gunners had the best away record in the Premier League last season and they should find a way to grind out a win on Monday night.

Tip: Arsenal to win & under 4.5 goals – 11/10 with Betway

Martinelli could play a starring role

Martinelli has the pace and movement to cause all sorts of problems for Palace right-back Joel Ward in this game.

The Brazilian forward opened the scoring in both of Arsenal’s victories over the Eagles last season and he ended the campaign with 15 league goals.

He drew a blank in Arsenal’s opener against Forest last weekend but he looked sharp in that game and he could play a starring role on Monday.

Ward is a solid defender but he is not the quickest full-back in the business, so he may struggle once again to deal with Martinelli’s explosive pace on that flank.

Odds of 13/5 at William Hill on Martinelli getting on the scoresheet look very attractive, especially when you consider that some bookies are only offering 7/4.

Tip: Gabriel Martinelli to score – 13/5 with William Hill

Palace still look dangerous on the break

Palace have found the back of the net in 10 of their last 12 games against Arsenal, which bodes well for their chances of scoring in this match.

They did not appear to miss Zaha too badly when they beat Sheffield United 1-0 in their opening game of the Premier League season.

Jeffrey Schlupp is not the most exciting replacement for the Ivorian winger in the starting XI, but the likes of Ayew, Eberechi Eze and Odsonne Edouard still offer pace and dynamism in attack.

Arsenal’s vulnerabilities on the counterattack were clearly evident when they conceded against Forest in the second half last weekend and they could suffer a similar fate in this game.

However, they have a lot more firepower than Sheffield United within their ranks and the likes of Martinelli, Bukayo Saka, Eddie Nketiah, Leandro Trossard, Havertz and Martin Odegaard should find a way to unlock this Palace defence.

Tip: Both teams to score – 17/20 with Parimatch
