Celtic's hopes of European football after Christmas hang in the balance as they get to renew hostilities with Atletico Madrid in the Spanish capital on Tuesday.

Last month’s clash between Celtic and Atletico Madrid was a whirlwind encounter that saw the match swing back and forth over the course of 90 minutes.
However, Atleti were the stronger of the two teams in the second half, even after they went down to 10 men following the red card shown to Rodrigo de Paul.

Under Simeone, Atletico have had a reputation for being a conservative and compact team. They traditionally focus on the defensive aspects of the game over the attacking side.

O’Riley to take aim from long-range
Matt O’Riley has scored six goals in 11 Scottish Premiership appearances this season, but has yet to find the back of the net in the Champions League despite starting all three group games.
O’Riley may not have found the net in October's draw with Atleti but he was a threat for the Scottish champions throughout.
In this season’s Champions League, Celtic are rock bottom for shots per 90 minutes, averaging just 8.3. Rodgers must find a way to increase this number if his team is to qualify for the competition’s last 16.
In O’Riley, though, Celtic have an attack-minded midfielder who can pose a threat from outside the box with a long-range effort or simply test Jan Oblak with a strike on target.
