2023 ICC Cricket World Cup betting tips:
- South Africa to score over 8.5 sixes – 5/6 Betway
- Devon Conway to score over 34.5 runs – 5/6 bet365
- Mustafizur Rahman to be Bangladesh’s Top Bowler – 3/1 Betfred
The 2023 ICC Cricket World Cup is now entering its third week and the race for the top four places in the competition is starting to become clear.
India have been dominant in their matches to date, winning all three of their games to confirm their status the favourites in the minds of UK betting sites.
However, there have also been strong performances from South Africa and New Zealand, who have their seen their Cricket World Cup odds narrow for the title.
Those sides will again have the chance to re-affirm themselves as contenders for the crown this week.
Here are our betting picks for this week’s round of matches.
South Africa to score over 8.5 sixes
The Proteas have been in destructive form with the bat in their opening two matches of the tournament. Quinton de Kock has been outstanding at the top of the order notching back-to-back centuries to get his campaign off to a brilliant start.
He has set the standard for the rest to follow and it has resulted in a mammoth total of 428 against Sri Lanka and a match-winning score of 311 against Australia.
South Africa’s batting line-up is stacked with power-hitters, who have enjoyed clearing the rope in their first two matches in India.
In their total of 428, South Africa scored 14 sixes against Sri Lanka and followed that up with a further eight against Australia, five of which were scored by De Kock.
Netherlands do not have a potent bowling attack and are likely to receive some punishment at the hands of the Proteas’ batters. We’re taking South Africa to score over 8.5 sixes in the match at odds of 5/6 with Betway.
Tip: South Africa to score over 8.5 sixes – 5/6 Betway
Conway to lead the way against Afghanistan
Afghanistan produced one of the greatest ICC Cricket World Cup shocks of all-time with a sensational 69-run win over holders England.
Rahmanullah Gurbaz’s early onslaught with the bat handed the minnows a fine start to the contest.
And although England tried in vain to drag the score back, Afghanistan posted a total of 284 that was too much for the Three Lions to chase in tough conditions.
Rashid Khan, Mohammed Nabi and Mujeeb Ur Rahman were all extremely impressive, and have given their country a glimmer of hope of producing more than just one shock result.
New Zealand have been on their mettle since game one and have won all three matches. They eased past England in their opener before defeating Netherlands and Bangladesh.
Devon Conway’s cool demeanour at the top of the order has allowed the Black Caps to get off to measured starts, and a blistering one is his knock of 152 not out against England.
Without the injured Kane Williamson, New Zealand need their opener to continue to show experience and guile. We’re backing him to score over 34.5 runs at 5/6 with bet365, having done so in two of his three games so far.
Can Mustafizur Rahman cause a stir?
India have been dominant in their three matches to open the competition, brushing aside Pakistan with ease in their last game. Rohit Sharma’s men are seemingly on the march to a place in the last four of the competition.
There’s still work ahead, but India are playing like a team that are primed for a charge at the World Cup crown on home soil.
Bangladesh have a challenge ahead of them to even compete with India. After beating Afghanistan in their first game, they were beaten by England and New Zealand failing to make a meaningful fist of either contest.
Bangladesh do have a good record against India in their recent ODI matches, winning three out of their last four, including a six-run win in the Asia Cup.
Mustafizur Rahman claimed three wickets in that game. The 28-year-old has taken 25 wickets at an average of 20.72 in 11 matches against India, suggesting that he causes more than a few issues in Sharma’s batting line-up.
We’re backing him to perform again at odds of 3/1 with Betfred to lead the wicket column for Bangladesh. If he can take early wickets, it could cause the grounds for an upset.
Tip: Mustafizur Rahman to be Bangladesh’s Top Bowler – 3/1 Betfred
