India vs England betting tips:
- India to beat England – 4/9 BetMGM
- Ravindra Jadeja to take two or more wickets – 1/1 Betway
- Jos Buttler to score under 25.5 runs – 5/6 BoyleSports
India can put England out of their 2023 ICC Cricket World Cup misery in their clash in Lucknow as the hosts search for a sixth win in a row at the tournament.
Jos Buttler and his team are on the brink after suffering their fourth defeat in five matches, having lost by eight wickets to Sri Lanka last time out.
The holders have been abject at the World Cup to date and look far from the conquering side of 2019 that swept all before them in the white-ball game for a six-year period.
England have endured a complete collapse in all disciplines. Their once destructive batting unit has gone into its shell, while their bowlers have failed to threaten.
Although their fate has not been sealed yet, India are the overwhelming favourites with UK bookmakers in their clash.
Rohit Sharma’s men have been clinical in their five matches so far, defeating all opponents with relative ease.
New Zealand were supposed to provide a tough examination of their title-winning credentials, but India were superb to defeat the Black Caps by four wickets.
The hosts can now send out a statement by ending England’s reign as 50-over champions. We’ve made three predictions for the game using the best Cricket World Cup odds.
India to end England’s reign
England are not mathematically out of the World Cup entering the fixture. They could yet perform a miracle to reach the knockout phase, but India have the chance to put them out of their misery.
Buttler and his team look ragged and completely out of form. It has been the case since the first game of the tournament when New Zealand put them to the sword.
For a team that have lit up the sport over the last seven years with their swashbuckling approach, England have been downright awful with the bat.
Joe Root summed up their tournament against Sri Lanka by getting run out on three after scratching around at the crease for 10 balls.
Comparing England to India is like night and day. Sharma and his team have been firing on all cylinders since the first ball of the competition.
Not only have they won, they’ve won comfortably against good teams, including New Zealand last time out. They’ve not allowed any of their five opponents to get on top in games, and that will likely continue against England.
It could be over very quickly if England continue to perform as they have done in India. We’re backing the host nation to secure a win at odds of 4/9 with BetMGM.
Jadeja to shine against England batters
England’s batting against spin was once a strength of their unit. Even in the calmer period of the middle overs, they were committed to a full-blooded attack against opposing bowlers to put mammoth totals on the board.
On the turning tracks of India though, that has a been problem for Buttler’s team. Their efforts against pace bowlers have not been much better, but their issues against spin have not allowed the runs to flow and built up pressure.
India’s bowlers will be licking their lips to capitalise against a wounded England batting unit, only four batters have passed 50 in the tournament, and two of those innings have come through Root.
Ravindra Jadeja has enjoyed himself against England in the past, and he has the ability to cause a whole lot of problems.
In 25 games he averages 24.78 with 38 wickets to his name, including a best of four for 28 at Cardiff in 2014.
The left-arm spinner has had a quiet World Cup by his standards, taking seven scalps in five games, although India have shared around the wickets in a balanced attack.
Given his record against England and looking at prices from new betting sites, we’re backing his odds to take two wickets or more at evens with Betway.
Tip: Ravindra Jadeja to take two or more wickets – 1/1 Betway
Buttler struggles to continue
Buttler has looked like a man with the weight of the world on his shoulders. It is a complete contrast to a year ago when England were triumphant in Australia in the World T20 to become the first team to hold both white-ball trophies simultaneously.
But, Buttler and his team have crumbled in the defence of their 50-over crown, and the captain has been under the spotlight. He has drawn criticism for his calls at the toss and in the field, and for confused selection decisions even before the World Cup.
Buttler’s batting has suffered as a result. At his best, he is one of the best white-ball players, if not the top batter, in the world.
But, it has not been the case in India, where in 12 innings in 50-over cricket he averages 14.83 with a top score of 43 made against New Zealand in the first game of the tournament.
Since then Buttler hasn’t made more than 20. So, with our final bet, we’re taking Buttler to score under 25.5 runs at 5/6 with BoyleSports.
Tip: Jos Buttler to score under 25.5 runs – 5/6 BoyleSports
