Australia vs New Zealand betting tips:
- Australia to beat New Zealand – 8/13 SpreadEx
- Adam Zampa to take two or more wickets – 4/5 Betway
- Century to be scored in match – 4/5 Unibet
Australia and New Zealand lock horns in the 2023 ICC Cricket World Cup as Pat Cummins’ men look to continue their resurgence in the competition.
After losing their opening two games of the tournament, the Baggy Greens have roared back into form powered by David Warner’s outstanding batting at the top of the order.
Warner smashed his second hundred on the bounce against Netherlands before Glenn Maxwell recorded the fastest World Cup century to allow Australia to cruise to a 309-run win.
UK bookmakers have trimmed Australia's oddds to win the World Cup into 4/1 to reflect their upturn in results.
The Aussies are slowly finding their peak form and they are a team that no side will relish facing in the latter stages of the tournament.
New Zealand had their momentum checked last time out against India. Daryl Mitchell scored a brilliant 130 to provide a platform, but other than Rachin Ravindra, no other Black Caps batter passed 25.
Virat Kohli orchestrated the India chase, and inflicted New Zealand’s first defeat of the competition. The Black Caps will be desperate to get back to winning ways, although their record against the Aussies is poor to say the least.
After looking at the Cricket World Cup odds, we’ve made three predictions for the contest in Dharamsala.
Australia to maintain momentum
The Baggy Greens were handed a tough start to the tournament against hosts India and South Africa, and they were duly outplayed by both teams.
But, Cummins and his side have responded with three straight wins in their matches Sri Lanka, Pakistan and Netherlands, delivering dominant batting performances in their last two victories.
Warner has come alive in exhilarating fashion, powering 163 in the Aussies’ win over Pakistan and 104 against Netherlands. Worryingly for the other teams at the World Cup, the rest of the line-up is starting to pick up.
Mitchell Marsh has a century and Maxwell produced a record-breaking knock with an onslaught, scoring his ton in 40 balls. Steve Smith and Marnus Labuschagne look more assured, while the bowlers performed brilliantly as a unit to skittle Netherlands.
It looks a dangerous prospect for New Zealand, who have lost their last five ODIs against Australia, including their meeting at the last World Cup.
The Black Caps also lost the finals of the 2015 World Cup and 2021 World T20 to the Aussies, who seem to be a bogey side for them no matter the format.
Given their improvement and Australia’s record, the Baggy Greens can justify odds of 8/13 on cricket betting sites to win a fourth straight game.
Will Zampa continue resurgence?
No player has summed up Australia’s return to form more than Adam Zampa.
Before the World Cup, the leg-spinner's confidence was rocked when he joined compatriot Mick Lewis in conceding the worst bowling figures in ODI history after being hammered for 113 from his 10 overs in a defeat to South Africa.
He seemed to bare the scars of that performance against India and the Proteas again in the opening two matches, taking a combined one for 123.
However, Zampa has stormed back in his last three games, claiming 12 wickets, four in each match, including a spell of four for eight against Netherlands.
The 31-year-old is entering the conversation as the top bowler in the tournament in the odds from new betting sites at 4/1. Zampa has a good record against New Zealand, taking 14 wickets in eight games at an average of 27.50.
Those statistics show that Zampa could be in the wickets again, and we’re taking odds of 4/5 for him to strike twice or more against the Black Caps with Betway.
More World Cup centuries?
The World Cup has been dominated by outstanding batting at the top of the order.
Almost every country has had at least one centurion, and it has been a common sight to see a hundred scored in a game with 21 scored in the tournament in total.
Australia have had three players score a century as Maxwell joined Warner and Marsh in recording three figures with his brutal knock.
New Zealand have also had three centurions through Devin Conway, Ravindra and Mitchell.
Kane Williamson could return for the contest to boost his side, although he is still recovering from a hand injury. So, there is sufficient quality in the batting line-ups for a player to reach three figures.
In two of the four previous games at Dharamsala, there has been a century scored in the match. With our final bet, we’re backing one player to reach the milestone again at odds of 4/5 with Unibet.
