That Trump interview proves the balloon is right – he really is a big baby

I will admit to being unsure about the wisdom of portraying President Trump as a baby – that is, I was unsure until I heard his interview with The Sun. After that I’m convinced that this portrayal is 100 per cent accurate.

Where do I start? My mother taught me as a young child that you don’t insult your hosts. He’s done it. He’s only happy when you do everything his way, or when you defer to his supposed great intellect. He is thin-skinned beyond belief.

Can we get real here, please? We are being lectured by a failed businessman who the majority of the American did not vote for. We should do what again my mother did to me. Send him to his room and wait for the adults to turn up.

The most wrong on Nato

While not wishing to give the latest rantings from the supposed leader of the free world the dignity of a response – he being totally wrong about what proportion of Germany’s power comes from Russia and how much more the US spends on defence than other Nato members – we should be reminded of some of the reasons for this.

The US, like the UK, spends enormous sums on so-called defence to support their hugely disproportionate domestic arms industries. In addition, the US military presence in Europe and places like Japan are not there to defend the local inhabitants. Like Faslane and previously Holy Loch submarine base, they exist as a first line of defence, not of Scotland, the UK or even Europe, but of the US.

My understanding of the history of Nato is that it was created to give the US a three-minute warning that the USSR was about to attack mainland US, after removing the threat from, mostly American, short-range missiles based in western Europe.

On this basis, I am quite happy to disband Nato and receive no more funding from the US. I do not want to spend the end of my life as an early-warning nuclear ash to assist the US.

Bully in a playground

The US administration’s treatment of North Korea may not be “gangster-like”, but it certainly resembles the behaviour of the bully in the school playground.

Can anyone produce a single good reason why it should be acceptable for the US, the only country ever to murder tens of thousands of civilians with nuclear weapons, to dictate that North Korea should not be allowed to develop such weapons?

Boris Trumped

That’s it then. President Trump dislikes Theresa May’s EU proposals and thinks Boris Johnson would make a good prime minister.

Means that the EU proposals merit serious consideration, and confirms what every sensible person already knew – Boris as PM would be a disaster.

In the matter of where Trump should stay while in the UK – please keep him in American digs, as there is a rumour that he has bed-wetting problems when abroad.
