Sir: Ernie Sears and Tom Barrance (Letters, 14 and 18 February) may be barking up the wrong tree. Section 30 of the Countryside Act 1968, whilst conferring upon cyclists the right to ride on a bridleway, requires those doing so to "give way to pedestrians and persons on horseback". What need then of any audible warning, save in emergency if one's brakes have failed.
