Sir: Clare Short ("Israelis outraged at Short speech", 11 July) may be comforted by David Lloyd George's instructions to Sir Ronald Storrs, governor of Jerusalem during the First World War. He said: "I hear very bad things about you from both the Jews and the Arabs; and if either of them stops you are out of a job".
