A sad night for Leicester leaves fans reflecting on club's future

The same feelings will be felt by every one of us from this city. A city, like our club, that has known prosperous and successful times, and some less happy

Standing outside the King Power Stadium on a cold night with other Leicester City fans the emotion was palpable.

Hope against all the odds that there wouldn’t be fatalities; fear that there would be, and they would involve Vichai Srivaddhanaprabha, members of his family and the pilot.

And though it is first a terrible family tragedy, anxiety about their club was etched into the faces of supporters looking for scant information, exchanging bits of gossip, trying not to speculate, the few reporters finding a universal sense of loss.

They left work to come to see what was happening, they came from home – there was even one woman with her dressing gown over her clothes.

They are the real fans, supporters all their lives, unlike some of us, I admit, who renewed our interest in the home town team’s legendary premiership winning season.

Yet the same feelings will be felt by every one of us from this city, a city, like our club, that has known prosperous and successful times, and some less happy.

What the owners did for us was to give us some extra pride in the old place, and we hope that we repaid the faith and investment that was put into the team, the stadium and the whole infrastructure.

Above all, hanging in the chill air, there is a heartfelt affection for the Thai family that, as one fan put it to me, had adopted our community as part of their family. It is a sad night.
