Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.
Your support makes all the difference. It might seem strange for a fashion designer to tell someone to buy less clothing, but that's exactly what Vivienne Westwood is urging the Duchess of Cambridge to do.
Environmental campaigner Westwood said the Duchess should recycle clothing:
"I think it would be great if she wore the same clothes over and again. That’s very good for the environment and would send a nice message."
"If you're going to all that trouble to get an outfit that suits you, then you should keep on wearing it."
"You don’t have to have a red outfit one day then something almost the same in blue the next."
Kate has indeed been spotted wearing outfits on more than one occasion in the past - including a blue tweed M Missoni coat, an Emilia Wickstead pink dress, and nude court shoes from LK Bennett, as well as lending her mum a dress from Reiss (see gallery above).
Some have called it a fashion faux pas for someone in the public eye to be caught in the same outfit twice at an event, but designer Matthew Williamson was quick to jump to Kate's defense:
"She has a lot to do so needs a good wardrobe."
Should celebrities and the Royal family set a good example by recycling outfits more often?
