Your support helps us to tell the story

From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Your support makes all the difference.

The Americans might have kicked us out in 1776, but let’s note a small victory we’ve just been awarded by The New York Times: the US media landscape, it says, is increasingly dominated by Fleet Street veterans. It doesn’t quite make up for what happened at Yorktown, but it’s a start.

There’s no need to stop there. Might an injection of old-school MI6 reserve stiffen spines in the crisis-ridden CIA? Should the endlessly boring brutes of American football be replaced by our refined cricketers? Or if poor little North West’s ridiculous moniker has soured America to its own celebrity babies, could we export a more conservatively named royal bump?

There are plenty of other fields where we might be able to help, and we would be more than happy to do so. But here’s the deal, America: if we do, you have to promise to keep Piers Morgan.
