Migrants charge phones through gaps of 30ft fence on US border

Hundreds of migrants who waited for days for a chance to apply for asylum were seen on Friday (12 May) huddled between two border walls separating Tijuana, Mexico from San Diego, US, many of them with little food.

Many who were waiting to be processed at the US border held their phones through the gaps of a 30ft fence in an effort to charge them.

Pandemic-related asylum restrictions that expelled migrants millions of times have ended in a shift that threatens to put a historic strain on America’s beleaguered immigration system.

The expired rule, known as Title 42, has been in place since March 2020.
