Anti-monarchy protesters consider ‘suing’ Met Police following 52 coronation arrests

Anti-monarchy group Republic have said they're considering taking legal action against the Metropolitan Police, after 52 activists from across environmental and anti-establishment groups were arrested over the coronation weekend.

Republic’s leader, Graham Smith, was released on Saturday night after nearly 16 hours in police custody, after cops seized 'Not My King' placards before they'd even had chance to use them.

“When they actually arrested us, it was on suspicion of being equipped to lock on, which we were not equipped to do", he told Channel 4.

"We have certainly been taking legal advice. We have had huge support from the public and legal professionals."
