This week, the decadent 1950s cruise liner SS Rotterdam has reopened as a floating hotel, perhaps symbolizing the wider cultural renaissance underway in Rotterdam. The city recently wrapped up international design fair Object Rotterdam and is gradually transforming itself into the cultural capital of the Netherlands with a burgeoning art, architecture and nightlife selection.
Cruise Hotel Rotterdam
Set on board Holland's most glamorous cruise ship, the SS Rotterdam, this new 257-room floating hotel retains the sophisticated atmosphere of the ship's heyday between 1959-2000. Now permanently moored in the Port of Rotterdam, the busiest port in Europe, guests can watch passing vessels from the Lido or enjoy a meal in the restored Club Room restaurant.

Hôtel Le Germain Calgary
Hôtel Le Germain Calgary officially opened February 15, the latest hotel for luxury "boutique" chain Groupe Germain. The 143-room property features a geothermal heating and cooling system, energy-efficient lighting controlled by occupancy card reader, and the recycling of heat from the air conditioning system to produce the hotel's hot water. It is situated in the centre of downtown Calgary in the Canadian province of Alberta.

Bülow Palais, Dresden
Set in the historic quarter of Neustadt, Dresden's latest luxury hotel is a sister establishment to the Relais & Châteaux Bülow Residenz right next door. Forty-four rooms and 14 suites make up the Bülow Palace, along with a Michelin-starred restaurant, cozy bar and cigar room.

Holiday Inn Walt Disney World
Located on the Walt Disney World's Hotel Plaza Boulevard in Orlando, Florida, this new 323-room family hotel is the latest to showcase the effort of Holiday Inn's $1bn (€741m) global relaunch. Many rooms feature balconies that allow guests to enjoy the nightly firework shows at the resort, while adults can enjoy a fitness complex, jogging and exercise path, heated swimming and connected lap pool and an outdoor hot tub and sun deck.

JW Marriott Hotel Los Angeles
Part of the $2.5bn (€1.85bn) downtown Los Angeles sports, residential and entertainment district known as L.A. LIVE, the 878-room Marriott also contains three ballrooms, two bars and a restaurant. For those venturing out, the Staples Center and 7,100-seat Nokia Theatre are also within the LA Live complex.
