Today To celebrate the 250th anniversary of Wedgwood, the pottery in Stoke-on-Trent is hosting a food festival. Over the weekend, there will be 30 marquees full of the Heart of England's finest produce, plus a cookery theatre with Sophie Grigson ( wedgwoodvisitorcentre.com).

This week Shanghai gets ever more glamorous when The Peninsula hotel opens tomorrow. Located on the historic Bund, it features opulent interiors, two restaurants and bars ( peninsula.com). On Monday, the Inside Out Festival kicks off in London. The capital's universities will host a debate with former poet laureate Andrew Motion, workshops and film screenings (lcace.org.uk). And from Thursday to Monday, see the Tees Valley in a new light. The peak of Roseberry Topping will be illuminated, with a series of art installations and special events ( arconline.co.uk).

In the diary The inaugural Galle Film Festival will take over the shores of the lovely southern coastal town in Sri Lanka from 2-6 December. Sri Lankan, South Asian and international films will be screened alongside workshops and talks ( gallefilmfestival.com).
