Some luxurious new lodgings are opening in East Africa on Monday. In Zanzibar, the 30-villa Baraza Resort fuses Arabic, Indian and Swahili style (baraza-zanzibar.com). Just north of the border in Kenya, Kicheche Laikipia is a new camp at the foot of Mount Kenya. Its tents are pitched within the Ol Pejeta Conservancy, home to the country's largest population of black rhino (kicheche.com). In London, historian and broadcaster Simon Schama is talking about the future of the US at the Royal Geographical Society on Thursday (stanfords.co.uk).

Culture hits Miami Beach as Art Basel sets up camp from 4-7 December. The event encompasses shows, talks, tours and public activities (artbaselmiamibeach.com). And from Friday 12 December Istanbul becomes more accessible from the UK, when easyJet launches a new route from Gatwick (easyJet.com).
