Your support helps us to tell the story

From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Your support makes all the difference.

Today: Festivals are not all about muddy boots and tent cities. At "Legoland Live! My First Festival" in Windsor, Berkshire, the one-day line-up includes the Zingzillas, Postman Pat, and Fifi and the Flowertots, and not a muddy field in sight ( legoland.co.uk). Meanwhile in Greenwich, south-east London, the new Sammy Ofer Wing is open at the National Maritime Museum with the exhibition High Arctic, which examines the future of this fragile icy region; until January 2012 ( nmm.ac.uk).

This week: Montreal Festimania has unleashed its summer season of circus, fashion, film, music and indigenous and African cultural events, which runs until 9 August ( montrealfestimania.com).

In the diary: The Turnberry Resort in Ayrshire, on the south-west coast of Scotland, is hosting the residential "Monty Summer School" from 19-21 August. The golf school is being hosted by Colin Montgomerie, pictured, at his Links Golf Academy and is open to golfers of any ability and includes accommodation at the luxury resort ( luxurycollection.com/turnberry).
