Today: The House of Commons in London opens to the public on Saturdays. The year-round, 75-minute "blue badge" guided tours will supplement the seasonal summer opening and cost £14 per adult ( www.parliament.uk ).

This week: From tomorrow, Kiev – and the rest of Ukraine – becomes more accessible thanks to new Sunday and Friday flights from Gatwick on Ukraine International Airways ( flyuia.com ).

For something a little warmer, check in to the new Hotel Muse in St Tropez. The hotel is the first European project by the Malaysia-based hotelier YTL (of Tanjong Jara and Pangkor Laut fame) and features 15 suites and terraced gardens ( muse-hotels.com ).

Back in London, the Kerala Carnival will bring southern Indian spirit to the South Bank on Wednesday and Thursday with Ayurvedic health stalls, traditional dance, music and food ( coinstreet.org ).

In the diary: The Algarve celebrates gastronomy this summer with a gourmet week at the Portimão Museum from 16 to 24 July and in Olhão from 10 to 15 August ( allgarve.pt ).
