Your support helps us to tell the story

From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Your support makes all the difference.

Today...

Art Rotterdam, a contemporary art fair at the Cruise Terminal, continues until tomorrow. As well as waterside exhibitions, cultural events will be held around the city, including a major Giacometti retrospective (artrotterdam.nl).

This week...

A new Kimpton Hotel opens in Alexandria, Virginia, on Thursday. The Lorien will offer bright, chic rooms in the heart of the city's old town (lorienhotelandspa.com).

Also on Thursday, celebrations will take place for the bicentenary of Charles Darwin. If you can't make it to the Galapagos Islands, his hometown of

Shrewsbury is holding events, including a grand Birthday Bash (discoverdarwin.co.uk).

In the diary...

In Blackpool, the Showzam festival runs from 13-22 February. The 10-day event will see the city's venues and open spaces turned into a carnival (showzam.co.uk). And the Snowbombing Festival in Mayrhofen has added more acts to its line-up, which includes Fatboy Slim and Grandmaster Flash. Running from 29 March-4 April the festival will also feature an arctic hotel and igloo disco (snowbombing.com).
