Today...

The US is celebrated in Paris with the launch of Americans in Paris at the Jardin d'Acclimatation. The month-long exhibit will feature a scaled-down Statue of Liberty, American cars, basketball games, cheerleaders and more (jardindacclimatation.fr).

This week...

Celebrated Thai destination spa Chiva-Som is bringing its culinary talents to London. Guests can pick up skills from the resort's head chef during master classes, or indulge in a gala dinner on Wednesday (chivasom. com). Elsewhere in London, the Bermondsey Square Hotel opens on Tuesday on hip Bermondsey Street near London Bridge (bespokehotels.

com). Across the channel in France, Cannes is playing host to a photography festival from Tuesday to Sunday, the theme of which is the environment (worldphotography awards.org).

Michael Wood, William Dalrymple and other leading writers will be speaking at India 09 – Through fresh eyes: Travel Writing. The event, at the British Library in London, takes place on 20 April and will tackle the desire to travel, linked to the British Council's India literature programme (bl.uk).
