Revealed: Europe's best beach getaways

If you're beginning to think about booking a summer sun getaway in Europe, Cyprus offers some of the best beach destinations, according to a survey released April 5 by TripAdvisor.

The island nabbed two of the top three beach destinations in Europe as voted for by TripAdvisor users, with Ayia Napa, the party capital which made its name as a notorious party paradise, in top place.

Protaras, another Cypriote tourist resort more popular with families, took third place, just below the Greek island of Skiathos, a small island famous for its white sand beaches.

Cyprus and Greece both managed two places in the list of Europe's best beaches, as did Italy and Spain, which rounded out the top ten between seventh and tenth place.

Turkey managed one entry, the resort village of Oludeniz, while the United Kingdom also managed to score a surprise entry with St Ives, a popular surfing town in the English county of Cornwall.

The winners were based on the most highly rated beach destinations by millions of international travelers in TripAdvisor reviews.
