Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Winter sun is still available – and Portugal still offers good value. A week's self catering in the four-star Luna Forte Da Oura apartments in Albufeira in the Algarve (where temperatures are currently hovering around 22C) costs £199 per person, based on two sharing. The price includes transfers and a 22kg baggage allowance. Departure is on 11 November from Leeds/Bradford. (0800 408 5599; jet2holidays.com)
Bright lights in the Big Apple
Marriott recently launched its Marriott Breaks service, which teams up its extensive hotels network with air or rail travel. An enticing deal is to New York: four nights' B&B at the five-star New York Marriott Marquis in Midtown Manhattan, plus return British Airways flights from Heathrow for selected mid to late November departure dates, costs £767 per person. The perfect excuse for an early Christmas shopping spree (0844 573 5900; marriottbreaks.co.uk).
Cut-price Caribbean
Catch the second week of the British Airways sale, which ends next Tuesday. You can offset the recent hike in APD with a bargain holiday on the Caribbean island of Grenada. The cost of a return flight starts at £509 from Gatwick. But for an additional £86, you can add seven nights' accommodation at the three-star Grenadian by Rex Resorts hotel. The £595 per person price is valid for selected departure dates between now and 30 June 2011 (0844 493 0787; ba.com).
