Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.
Your support makes all the difference.Late November into early December is traditionally the quietest period in the travelling calendar, which is why tour operators, hotels and transport providers often release some of their best deals around about now.
Take DFDS Seaways, for example, which is offering a two-night mini cruise to Amsterdam from £45 per person. There are six mid-week departures from Newcastle between 23 November and 9 December and four weekend departures between 27 November and 18 December. The price includes return coach transfers from the boat to Amsterdam city centre; tickets go on sale this Friday ( dfds.co.uk/72hours).
If sun is on your agenda, then Hayes & Jarvis is offering a 45 per cent saving on a holiday in St Lucia; seven nights’ all inclusive at the four-star Almond Morgan Bay costs from £799 per person, which includes flights from Gatwick and transfers ( hayesandjarvis.com).
For sun in the Indian Ocean, Mauritius Luxury Holidays is offering a week’s half board at the feng shui-designed Legends resort from £1,388 per person, including flights departing Heathrow up until 16 December and transfers ( mauritiusluxuryholidays.co.uk).
For winter sun without the long-haul flight, consider Egypt; Longwood Holidays is offering a week in Taba Heights from £409. The price is for seven nights’ half board at the five-star Hyatt Regency in a sea view room and includes flights from Gatwick on 30 November and transfers; discounts on spa treatments and beverages are also included ( longwoodholidays.co.uk).
Meanwhile, ebookers is offering five nights at the three-star Jormand Hotel Apartments in Dubai for £370 per person, including flights from Heathrow; departs 25 November ( ebookers.com). Or what about five nights in Hong Kong? Also offered by ebookers, the price of £499 per person includes return flights from Cardiff and accommodation at the three-star Dorsett Kowloon Hotel; departs 3 December.
Also in Hong Kong, Costa Cruises is offering a 14-night cruise of the Philippines, Malaysia, Brunei, Vietnam and China from £739 per person. The cruise departs Hong Kong on 5 December and the price includes full board accommodation in an inside cabin, but not flights ( costacruises.co.uk).
Finally, if you’re prepared to take a gamble on the weather, then Dorset Coastal Cottages is offering £90 off the rental of Cliff Cottage in Burton Bradstock. The cottage sleeps up to six and the price for seven nights is £375, commencing 27 November ( dorsetcoastalcottages.com).
