From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Venice, Bali, Paris… There are many places we seem to see over and over again on our Instagram feeds, posted by everyone from travel bloggers to old school friends.

On the first anniversary of the launch of Instagram stories, the photo-sharing app has just revealed which cities are the top location tags.

And the results may surprise you.

Top of the list is Jakarta, the capital of Indonesia on the island of Java.

And in second place, São Paulo in Brazil.

Perhaps more predictably, New York and London come in in third and fourth position, with Madrid taking fifth place.

The top location tags on Instagram stories:

  1. Jakarta, Indonesia
  2. São Paulo, Brazil
  3. New York, NY
  4. London, UK
  5. Madrid, Spain

Instagram also revealed the most popular hashtags, 90 per cent of which are in English:

  1. #GOODMORNING
  2. #WORK
  3. #GOODNIGHT
  4. #MOOD
  5. #HAPPYBIRTHDAY
  6. #TBT
  7. #LOVE
  8. #HOME
  9. #BOMDIA (meaning hello or good day in Portuguese)
  10. #RELAX

The most used stickers were revealed to be the vibrant location sticker, digital time sticker, “Like” sticker, hashtag sticker and weather sticker.

So if you really want to be on top of the trends, you'd better head to Jakarta and post an Instagram story with a location sticker and say #goodmorning.
